These are stats, and not who is better. Are you telling me that you would take Air Forces offense over ours. Yeah they have better stats, but does that mean they have a better offense.

i guess the question in this case really comes down to player development. with the talent we have vrs. the talent they have, who is utilizing their ability to the higher degree? granted there is an x factor of opponent. but the question you really have to ask yourself is, are we getting 100% of what our offense is capable of or not? if the answer is anything other than yes, regardless of the reasoning, we have a coaching problem. that doesn't mean ANYONE should be fired or that staff changes need to be made. but assuming the answer to that question isn't yes, it is most certainly a problem that needs to be addressed asap!

1. We try to stay balanced. We try to run and pass. Teams that Pass the ball have longer games, meaning the times stops and they get in more plays.

ok, balance is good. but balance is only good so long as it is achieving something meaningful. ie forcing the defense to stay honest and not attacking one particular part of your game. if a team is putting 9 in the box every single play you don't go 50/50. thats stupid. if it takes going 70/30 for the passing game to force them to play you honest that is exactly what you do. but you DO NOT run it into the teeth of the defense just to pat yourself on the back at the end of the game and say you were "balanced" play calling wise. think about it defensively. if you were playing a spread team that didn't even line up a tb 90% of the time, would you call half your defensive schemes to stop the run?

Also yesterday the team was still dwelling on the Texas game you could tell, Even Jim Lachey said it was the worst week of practice he had ever seen at tOSU.

that is a very true and relevant statement. i don't think saturday's performance on o, or lack there of, can really be pinned on tressel. though i feel the opposite about the texas game. i think tressel had a bad night against texas. it wasn't the only reason we lost, but it certainly didn't help.

We try to win games by having an effecient offense and stellar defense.

what happens next year if all of our juniors on d join the seniors in declairing for the nfl? we'll loose well over half the d. do we just accept loosing at least half our games next year because our d won't be the strength of the team? you lead with your strength, whether that be a bruising tb and o line or the greatest wr core in the nation is irrelivant. if you play against the strength of your team because you are unable to adapt to your talent you are a piss poor coach, period.

keep in mind im not anti tressel. i really like him. i think he has done a great job over the last 4 years both on and off the field with the team. but imho this year is the first year we really have the right to judge what type of coach tressel really is. this is his team. he picked them and there isn't a more talented bunch out there. several just as, but you'd have to make a damn good arguement for me to believe there was one better. tressel is either a great coach who puts his players in the best position to achieve regardless of whether or not it fits his "personal" preference for playing the game. or he is pigeon holed into thinking there is only 1 way to play a game. one of these two coaching styles has a future at tOSU, the other doesn't. we'll have our answers by seasons end i think.

personally i think he was off his game against texas and last week was just trying to break ts into the offense gently. i honestly think the team will progress by leaps and bounds as the year goes on. heres to tressel proving our faith in him is well founded

Well now doesn't this bullshit look a bit familiar?

Passing Offense 91st
Total Offense 72nd
Scoring Offense 68th

All put us well into the bottom half of the 117 teams.

Its been this way 5 years running now, time to put '02 in perspective and start objectivly evaluating what's going on with those who run this team.

Run D 1st
Scoring D 9th
Total D 4th

Tells me pressure needs to be placed on Tressel to give up the off cord schtick and can Bollman as glaringly ineffective in terms of coaching and helping Tressel see what is working and what isnt on the offensive side of the ball.

Scoring offense is 60th which is still bottom half of the NCAA but after the next 4 weeks against some pretty weak defenses we should break into the top half in the only offensive stat category that really matters.

EDIT*****

Thought I'd put OSU's B10 ranking in some select categories up as well. These numbers are B10 only, no OOC stats involved.

I won't comment on the offensive stats, I think that's been mentioned once or twice by other posters.

The kickoff return and turnover numbers show that the team isn't playing Tresselball very effectively.

That and the big 104 in TO ratio.

We've got a great defense and 2 pretty damn good kickers again, thats it.

Smells like a slightly weaker version of 2003 team to me.
