We're #50 in total offense.

That's totally unacceptable. JT better open up the playbook, or we'll never be competitive in meaningless statistical categories. :tongue2:

And our kickoff returns are 70 yards below Toledo's, on average. Didn't we learn anything in that kick scrimmage? And where is that sarcasm font, anyway?

Thought maybe we could keep this as a running thread on the NCAA rank every week and save some space.

The scoring offense ranks in the top half of D1 football (ever so narrowly) only because of how good our D and special teams are.

The offense is already in the 80's and thats after the cupcake portion of the schedule is over. We'll be back down in our accustomed 90-105 range as soon as we play Iowa and PSU.

3 straight years in the bottom 10-15% of D1 football offensively....I think its time to admit the problem runs deeper than a rusty Troy Smith.

I know I have been somewhat critical of the offense this week, but it is only b/c we arent trying for a homerun.

I don't think that offense stats mean a whole lot. Tress doesnt run up the score, he never has and never will, he sits on the lead when he is up by a couple scores, which is a smart thing to do, b/c if not a mistake could lead to a turn around in the game.

You have to remember that teams that are ranked ahead of us are playing Division-2 football teams, We played the number 2 team in the country.

I like the fact that our defense is up there and we are winning.

1- I too enjoy great defense and winning however we have already seen a loss due to shitty O, so the "just win" defense isn't holding water this year.

2- I would be leery of the national rankings after only 3 games myself if we didn't have a 2 year track record of the exact same sorry ass results.

If you can run the table while purposely handcuffing the offense and winning ugly then more power to you, a win's a win. If you cannot run the table with that particular formula you are opening yourself up to some criticisim.

There is simply no logical reason you can give me for a team with OSU's talent to be in the bottom quarter of all of D1 offensive football for 2003, 2004 and it appears soon to be 2005. It is underachievement and its time to stop making excuses and get it fixed.

They lost to the number 2 team in the country and if the offense executes on a couple of plays they win the game.

The way this team is run is not for 600yds of total offense, it isnt going to happen, I am not making excuses that is just the nature of this offense. They punt play field position and take advantage of it. One stat that isnt on there that needs to be taken care of is tds in the red zone. That is a thing of concern.

I fully understand the nature of our offense. My point is and always will be that it can be better than bottom 25. It doesn't have to be top 10 but bottom 25 is ridiculous and its gone on too long to make excuses for anymore, its a full blown trend.

Also don't throw in wins or near wins as an excuse for this offense. Any success is in spite of that facet of the team, not because of it.

You don't have to play bad offense to win with defense and the kicking game. It seems like they feel we do.

These are stats, and not who is better. Are you telling me that you would take Air Forces offense over ours. Yeah they have better stats, but does that mean they have a better offense.

I am going to give some reasons why this is a trend.

1. We try to stay balanced. We try to run and pass. Teams that Pass the ball have longer games, meaning the times stops and they get in more plays.

2. We don't have a whole field to go b/c we get great field position and we all knows what happens when we hit the redzone.

3. When we get a lead we try and work on the clock, we don't continue to go for a home run.

4. Other teams play high octane ball games where they score, the other teams scores and then they have the ball back.

- I will give you a basketball team to compare it too. If you look at the Detorit pistons. Is their offense good, yes, do they put up a lot of points not really. Do they win, yes. It is kind of like a game of give and take. It is the style of game we play, not how bad we play.

Also yesterday the team was still dwelling on the Texas game you could tell, Even Jim Lachey said it was the worst week of practice he had ever seen at tOSU.

We try to win games by having an effecient offense and stellar defense.

Again, thanks for the explanation but believe me I get it. My point once again...why do we have to be ranked 90th or worse in total offense fora 2-3 year stretch? This is obviously below par, why don't they improve? What rational explanation can you give me for a school like OSu, with athletes like OSU to be ranked that low for that long?

You can't sit here and use game by game excuses when its been going on for 2 1/2 years and that is most definitly a trend.

Its happened for a long period of time with different players and different schemes, the only constant are the coaches. Continue to make excuses if you want, it your perogative. I am finally to the point where I'm saying the emperor has no clothes and something needs to be done on the offensive side of the ball.

same here.

Your arguments are very similar to the ones I used to use against Riptide and his minions over at Bucknuts in 2002, so obviously I can feel where you are coming from.

The length of time this has been going on is what has finally just snapped me.

We cant keep doing the same shit and expecting different results. The O doesn't have to be USC's but it can by-God be a top 50 unit at the very least.

I know we can agree on something, that we the real stat ends up at 11 after the year.

Did you notice that Oxford (Of Ohio) and San Diego College were 2 of our 3 opponents?

Handcuffing talented players and play calling to open up the punt, coupled with special team returns to get into field goal position will hurt the Buckeyes in the long run.
