One major thing Tressel's Bucks do better than Cooper's did...

I think it was obvious from his first year, and that's one of the reasons he got the job. Cooper never really made it a priority to recruit Ohio as much as California and Florida, etc...whether that was because he bought into the whole "Florida speed" myth or not, I don't know.
A - He did buy into the Florida speed myth.
B - He had good recruiting connections (better) out of state than in-state when he arrived, and leant on those connections.
C - He reportedly did not develop good relations with each and every HS coach of note in Ohio.

Hence he didn't recruit Ohio heavy by choice, by inclination and by virtue of poorer than perfect local politics.

Other than that, he had a pretty good handle on it is what you're saying then, right?

But one thing Coop was good at was offensive plays. You can't dispute the calls he would make, he is better at the offensive game than tressel is. And you can also say that coop isn't nearly as good of a Defensive coach as tressel. I would love if cooper was our Offensive Coordinator, we would be unstopable.

He did call some good plays but what always burnt me up was 3rd and long and he's trying to run Nicky Sualua up the middle for a 14 yard gain.

The ole FB draw was a fave on 3rd and long.

Drove me nuts for some reason.

Are you kidding me? Cooper couldn't call offensive plays worth a crap...especially against Michigan. Cooper had so much offensive talent over the years...I always thought his play calling was suspect. Tressel, I think, really calls plays based on situations and score and time of the game. Tressel is not afraid to get away from what the original plan was if it is working, or if something in the game happens that dictates changing things. Cooper would always run off tackle or do the FB run crap at THE WORST times ever. I think Tressel could have even made Stanley Jackson look decent.

I don't want this to deteriorate into another huge Cooper-bashing thread, but the second half of the 1998 Michigan State game was one of the worst-called offensive games, by any team, in any era, ever.

I was always able to forgive a lot of Cooper's problems because, I rationalized, it wasn't entirely Coop's fault what happened in the mid-90's. I'm sure nobody wanted to win those Michigan games anymore than he did, and it's not as if he went out there and tripped Shawn Springs himself, or committed five turnovers against Michigan State in 1998.

The 1997 Rose Bowl bought him a stay of execution, but I was through with Cooper after the two passes following Taliaferro's injury in the 2000 game against PSU. The Bucks were up 38-6, PSU has just had their cornerback taken off the field in an ambulance, and Coop had the kids come back in during garbage time slinging the ball into the end zone on fourth down in the closing minutes of a rout.

I just thought that was absolutely classless. I really began hoping he'd be fired at that point.
