Ole Miss -3.5 vs Okla St (ov/un 50.5) Fox Sat 2 ET, Cotton Bowl

Always liked the Cotton Bowl. For the young crowd, as recently as the 1960s there were only FOUR bowl games, and this was one of them.

(Orange, Sugar, Cotton and Rose)

Going to be the first time this game is not played in the Cotton Bowl stadium. This year, and I'm guessing going forward, it's at Jerry's playground in Arlington.

I'm surprised it isn't the AT&T Cotton Bowl Presented by Jerry Jones

Jerry Jones doesn't present anything. He charges others millions to present him. Even the Cowboys regular season home games have sponsors.

Walk with me down Logic Lane.

The Okie St. running back was apparently tackled, but he never touched the ground coming to rest on the defender, alas Blount. The RB continues to run knowing he wasn't down, even though the ref blew the whistle, alas Blount. The explanation for the play not being reviewable is that the play was blown dead.

Was the whistle not blown last night on Blount's TD? Why is one play reviewable/able to be overturned and not the other?

Because the refs were trying to intentionally screw Ohio State.

I think the rationale is Blount didn't get up and run after the whistle, the refs just simply spotted the ball wrong because they thought he touched the ground with a different part of his body. Who knows? There's always some subjectivity involved in spotting the ball, and at the goal line it can mean points.

There's a big difference between a second extending the football & 5-7 seconds spent getting up and running downfield. The latter gives the refs time to blow it dead.

Pat Summerall is junk.

:roll2:

The man is almost 80 years old, and a legend in football broadcasting. He was THE guy in the 70s and 80s. I don't think it hurts to let him do one bowl game for old time's sake.

My point exactly. There was nowhere for Blount to get up and run to, unlike the Okie St. RB. The ref in the Okie St. game thought the RB touched the ground, therefore spotting the ball wrong.

The way Blount's TD played-out last night was perfect. I guess my point about the Okie St. play is that by-and-large, refs blow the whistle way too soon and don't let the play end itself.

Jwin, I agree there's a big difference between Blount's simultaneous stretch of the ball and 5-7 seconds spent running after the play is whistled dead. But that wasn't the case in the Okie St. game. The RB rolled off the defender immediatley and continued to run.

In this case, the offending ref(s) should be made to officiate the scUM bowl game. What's that you say? Really, they're not?:slappy:

Ole Piss is going to regret not getting points when Snead was in the game, because this freshman looks like he's in over his head. :shake:

"Poke U" looks poised to tie it.

Yeah, it does. Did you watch Dick Clark counting down the new year? He lost count going backwards from 20, twice.

Look, I'm not hating on them because they're old, and I understand and respect their recent health issues, but a big part of announcing and speaking publicly is the ability to ... uh ... speak. These guys have jobs solely because of their legacy. They are no longer qualified to do what they do, so should not be doing it.

Keith Jackson's final few years were an embarassment. Pat needs to let go too.
