If Jordan actually wins a spot this year that would seemingly be not such a great sign for the present, at the very least not in the development of Knox, Burrell and others.

My thoughts exactly. Glad to hear he is competing because that gets you excited about his potential. However, I was really hoping Lisle, Knox and Burrell would be ready to play (UFM did say Lisle and Knox looked good though). Either way, a true freshman competing for a starting spot on the OL is extremely impressive on its own.

Not taking anything away from Michael but keep in mind Urbs psychology background. Just saying.

I was seriously just about to write something like this! Just because he's out with the starters now, means little in the grand scheme, imo. He's playing motivational mind games with Lisle and Knox. He's humbling them by having them play under a true frosh, and saying everything to hype up the frosh, and just enough to appease the possible starters but still keeping them hungry. UFM won't just give them the starting position

Michael Jordan Impressing at Guard for Buckeyes

He might not yet have any shoes named after him, but Ohio State freshman offensive lineman Michael Jordan has been impressive enough early on to find himself in some rarefied air.

As an early enrollee, Jordan should still be in high school, but instead he is participating in spring practice for the Buckeyes and is currently getting some heavy snaps with the first team at left guard.

Jordan is competing with redshirt junior Evan Lisle, redshirt sophomore Demetrius Knox and redshirt freshman Matt Burrell for the starting spot at left guard, and even though he might not yet always know exactly what he's supposed to be doing, he's doing whatever he can to catch his coaches' eyes.

"He just loves it," Urban Meyer said recently. "He doesn’t know if it’s right or left sometimes. At this point, we don’t care. He comes in for extra work, enjoys the game, enjoys practice, and is a tough guy. He’s done all of that. Really impressed with him."

Jordan came to Ohio State as a tackle but was moved to guard pretty quickly, and the results have been positive. Offensive line coach Greg Studrawa has actually been surprised that Jordan has played this well this early.

As a veteran offensive line coach, Studrawa doesn't believe he has ever started a freshman on any of his offensive lines, which says a lot about Jordan and where he is right now.

"That speaks volumes," Studrawa said. "Absolutely. No doubt about it. I don’t know how to put that in words, but I wouldn’t have expected that. We knew he was a great talented young man and intelligent, but until you get him out here and it’s the speed of the game and how each kid adjusts to the speed of the game, he’s adjusted really quickly."

BETTER KNOW A BUCKEYE: MICHAEL JORDAN

Our "Better Know a Buckeye" series continues with its 11th installment. We profile Michael Jordan, an offensive lineman from Canton, Michigan.

Jordan comes to Ohio State from a township of Wayne County (i.e. Detroit) that is at the midpoint between Detroit and Ann Arbor. The west end of Canton actually bleeds into Superior County Township, which is in Ann Arbor's county (Washtenaw). Recruiting analysts expected him to sign with Michigan as a result. However, several visits to Ohio State and an abrupt change in his timetable spelled good news for the Buckeyes. He committed on May 7 of last year and enrolled in January.

I provide a comprehensive profile of Michael Jordan below. I retell his recruitment and some of the reasons he chose Ohio State. Thereafter, I provide a scouting report of Jordan, highlighting his strengths and areas for improvement. I close with a projection that Jordan may likely see early playing time in 2016 and provide some highlight film for the reader to watch at the end of the feature.

HIS RECRUITMENT
Plymouth High School's proximity to Ann Arbor makes Michigan a preferred landing spot for an eligible football prospect coming from its ranks. However, the high school does not produce a lot of football prospects. Prospects with FBS potential tend to be MAC-caliber. The last prospect from Plymouth to sign with a Power Five program was Brennen Beyer in 2011. He signed with Michigan.

"Probably" going to be a starter according to Meyer. That is a little surprising. He was obviously getting positive reviews but I thought that was probably to encourage him to keep up the hard work and to motivate a more experienced player like Knox, who would eventually start. That still could be what's going on, I guess, but IIRC Meyer has said in the past that starting jobs are usually won based on what a player has done before camp starts, not in camp.
