OL Justin Boren (Official Thread)

Congrats, JB! Now get the fuck out of Ann Arbor. You never have to go back.

Unless you want to watch Zach and the boys go for 8 in a row two years from now. :scum4:

Ohio State's Justin Boren ignores jeers, celebrates return to Michigan with win

Justin Boren made his way toward the Michigan Stadium tunnel Saturday afternoon, making sure not to make eye contact with anyone.

But the Ohio State offensive lineman heard the things he expected he would in his return to Ann Arbor two years after leaving the Michigan football team for rival Ohio State.

As he has since his departure, Boren - who questioned the Michigan's family values under Rich Rodriguez - ignored the disparaging comments. It was a task made easier by the Buckeyes' 21-10 win over his former team that provided Ohio State an outright Big Ten championship.

"It doesn't get any better than that," Boren said as he left the field.

For the past week, Boren didn't read newspaper accounts of what was being said about him by his former Michigan teammates. Occasionally, his Ohio State linemates provided him snippets of what was being said in Ann Arbor.

He ignored it all.

"It just try and tune it out and concentrate on what I can concentrate on," Boren said during Ohio State's post-game press conference . "You hear things and you just laugh in the back of your head and at the end of the game, it's whatever."

Bob Hunter commentary: Win makes fans' taunts irrelevant to Boren

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- As Justin Boren left the field and headed up the ramp toward the locker room after Ohio State's 21-10 win yesterday, a Michigan fan was leaning on a rail looking for him.

The fan's face was brake-lights red. He snorted and steamed and unleashed a firestorm of obscenities at the former Wolverines player with an intensity that was downright scary. This wasn't Ohio State vs. Michigan, football's greatest rivalry. This was definitely something else.

"I don't know (how to explain it)," Boren said. "It's an intense rivalry. I grew up a Michigan fan in a Michigan family. I knew about the rivalry. I guess some people take it pretty serious. But I'm just a kid trying to play football."

Playing football under these circumstances couldn't have been easy. When a talented Michigan player who is the son of a talented Michigan player -- Boren's father, Mike, had a distinguished career as a linebacker from 1980 to '83 -- transfers to Ohio State and takes a few shots at the new coach on his way out, it's pretty obvious he isn't going to be handed a cake and a watch when he returns wearing the rival's uniform.

"It was a little emotional coming into the stadium," he said. "I haven't been here since I left. My last game was when I was at Michigan, and we lost to Ohio State.

On the other hand, the fuse was lit as soon as "we" became "they." Boren said he wasn't worried about his safety because he "had 70 guys who were going to back me up if anybody tried to do anything."

But some of his teammates were prepared in case any Wolverines player decided to try to get even with Boren for going over to the dark side.

"(The coaches) said cover the ball," senior offensive tackle Jim Cordle said, "but I thought I was going to be covering Boren, to make sure they don't take cheap shots at him. But (former Buckeyes coach Earle) Bruce always says (Ohio State-Michigan) is the cleanest game you'll ever play, and it was."

OSU’s Boren happy after beating former team
Filed by Chris Assenheimer November 22nd, 2009 in Sports.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — It was a bittersweet day for Ohio State guard Justin Boren, heavy on the sweet.

Boren, who played two years at Michigan before transferring to Ohio State, wrapped up his first regular season as a Buckeye by beating his former team to claim the outright Big Ten title.

“It was a little emotional coming into the stadium, but I feel awesome,” said Boren, who was part of an impressive performance from Ohio State’s offensive line that paved the way for 251 rushing yards in a 21-10 victory. “We won the Big Ten outright. It’s awesome. I’m a Big Ten champion and it doesn’t get any better than this.”

Along the way, Boren, a marked man in Michigan since leaving the Wolverines for their archrival, endured plenty of abuse.

Michigan fans showered the junior with obscenities as the Buckeyes warmed up in the end zone prior to the game and he heard derogatory remarks from a number of his former teammates during Ohio State’s sixth straight victory over the Wolverines.

“Not very good,” said Boren when asked how Michigan fans treated him. “But, hey, I zoned them out, so it was OK. I knew it was going to be like that.”

He also expected trash talk from his former Wolverine mates.

“It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be,” Boren said. “There was some stuff at the beginning of the game, but not much at the end.”

“I’m sure he’s excited, but I’m sure he’s glad this day is over,” said Ohio State coach Jim Tressel. “He has some strong Michigan ties. He came in and competed as hard as he could and came away with a win.”

A buddy of mine and I were talking about just this thing a couple days ago. It was sparked by a conversation of the '85 Bears and how, in the Super Bowl, The Fridge had a TD run buy Walter didn't. It moved onto how just how loud would the booing be if Tress lined Justin up as the runningback on 1st and Goal at the one-inch line.

I still hold that against Ditka. Payton was one of the great men in the history of pro football IMO.

So fitting that the previous loss was to OSU while he was with the enemy, even more karma is his last win in the Big House is under our colors for the visiting team.

Outstanding play Boren, while it was short lived this year, its been an honor.

:oh:

Going Home: OSU offensive lineman Justin Boren began his career at the University of Michigan but when former Head Coach Lloyd Carr resigned, Boren decided to return to his home state of Ohio and play for the Buckeyes. He has no regrets about his decision.

Michigan fans were on former U of M and current OSU offensive lineman Justin Boren. These fans obviously got the last line wrong as Boren came away a winner on Saturday and they did not.

"I love Ohio State. I've loved it since day one. I wish I had three more years here," said Boren after the Michigan game.

It was Boren's first visit to Michigan Stadium since his transfer, and as you might expect, his welcome was not exactly warm at times.

"There wasn't too much of it on the field, but there was quite a bit coming from the fans," said Boren. "I don't think I can repeat a lot of what was being said."

Boren said he was able to block most of that stuff, but other Buckeyes heard it too.

"There were two fans behind our bench that kept going at him, but from the players, there wasn?t any trash talking until one guy from Michigan at the very end that said some words to him," said fellow offensive lineman Jim Cordle.

Boren had heard some things before the game, but wasn't intimidated in the least.

"I knew there was going to be talking, but I wasn't worried about my safety. I had 70 guys who were going to back me up," he said referring to the OSU travel squad.

At the game's conclusion Boren was actually able to renew acquaintances with some of his former teammates.

"I talked to a couple of guys," he said.

"I don't talk to them regularly but after the game I got to talk to them and they were cool.

"Chad Henne, some of the older guys that I played with that graduated were here and I got to talk to them."

According to OSU center Mike Brewster, Boren never responded to the fans but still got in the last word on his detractors.

"If anything I heard more stuff coming from the stands, but he gets the last laugh," said Brewster.

"He's outright Big Ten champs."

A lot of Boren haters in Ann Whorebor. My jersey wasn't well received LMAO. I found out from a friend of the family up there that they wore neutral colors and feared for his safety. They took pictures of my jersey and appreciated my support and said they were spending Thanksgiving with the Borens and were going to show them my jersey.

Boren brothers major in ?bash?
By Adam Jude

LOS ANGELES ? Mike Boren was a star linebacker and team captain at Michigan under Bo Schembechler in the early 1980s, so it?s only natural that he would raise two sons who would start together at ? Ohio State?

Yeah, it?s complicated.

Justin and Zach Boren grew up as fans of the Wolverines. Their dad still ranks sixth on Michigan?s all-time tackles list, and their mom graduated from Michigan, too.

Justin Boren followed the family tradition, and started all 13 games on the Wolverines? offensive line as a sophomore in 2007.

Then things got a little messy in Michigan. Lloyd Carr retired after the 2007 season, and Rich Rodriguez was brought in as the new head coach.

It was a move that didn?t sit well with Justin Boren.

Not long after Rodriguez took over, Justin Boren released a damning statement to announce his transfer.

?I regret leaving behind my (Michigan) friends and teammates, but I need to stand up for what I know is right,? he said in the statement. ?? Michigan football was a family, built on mutual respect and support for each other from Coach Carr on down. ? I have great trouble accepting that those family values have eroded in just a few months.?

The Borens? Pickerington, Ohio, home is only about 20 miles from the Ohio State campus in Columbus, and Justin Boren settled on the Buckeyes ? Michigan?s fiercest rival ? as his new team.

After sitting out last season under transfer rules, he started 11 games at left guard this season, missing one game with a heel injury, and helping the Buckeyes to the Big Ten title and a date against Oregon in the Rose Bowl on Friday.

Even better, he?s been able to share the experiences this season with his younger brother, who was a surprise hit as a true freshman starter at fullback. Teammates have nicknamed the Borens ?Bash Brothers.?

?It?s really cool playing with my little brother,? said Justin, a 315-pound junior. ?Both of us starting on the Ohio State offense, it?s crazy. We really don?t step back and think about it much ? you kind of take it for granted ? but it?s pretty cool.?

Zach, recruited as a linebacker, injured his knee in his final high school game last year, and missed Ohio State?s spring practices. Then coaches asked him to switch to fullback, and he agreed, hoping to get on the field in any way he could.

He had a TD catch in a win over Indiana, and had two key catches in a win over Penn State.

?They?re tough, hard-nosed guys,? Ohio State left tackle Jim Cordle said.

Not sure this is the correct term here.

He settled on OSU in much the same way as I would settle on Megan Fox.
