OL Jim Cordle (Official Thread)

Lots of confusing info here. The staff loved Cordle before at center.
Now, some are saying that it isn't so?
Somebody is wrong! Or misinformed.

The article doesn't really state anything, so who knows...

The staff has raved about Cordle since his freshman year when he was sidelined by injury

This is great for Jimmy, but...

What has he done to get on this list??

I think we all know the Rimington watch list is a joke, "Who do you have playing from Rimington watch list this season?"

I'd have to imagine that it is based on OSU's history at the Rimington position and a good word from a coach, but since this list has a candidate from about 40% of the teams in the country who really knows...there are a few sophs on the list and I don't think any of them were starters last year

Video interview as Jim discusses his time at tOSU and the upcoming season.

Considering the quality of our last 3 centers, I was wondering if Jim Cordle had the leadership qualities, the intelligence and the "presence" to take over the Center position at THE Ohio State University.

After watching that interview, I feel better.

Step started the 2003 season as the starting center and then was moved to right guard against Iowa.

I originally thought he was at center all of 2003 with Nick taking over in 2004, but then I wasn't so sure...memory is indeed the second thing to go.

Ohio State football notebook: Cordle has firm grip on center job

By Ken Gordon
The Columbus Dispatch

The most important position on the Ohio State offensive line has been solidified, and it has a decidedly central Ohio look.

On Tuesday, offensive coordinator and line coach Jim Bollman was giving a rundown of how his charges are stacking up. He used the adjective "good" for everyone until he got to Jim Cordle at center.

"(Cordle) is doing an outstanding job," Bollman said.

Cordle, a sophomore from Lancaster, is taking over from Doug Datish, who graduated.

Bollman emphasizes having a dependable center and was hoping that Cordle would seize control.

"He feels like he knows the ropes really good," Bollman said. "He really understands the things that we want him to do, and I think that has made that transition a lot easier."

Backing up Cordle is Andrew Moses, a walk-on from Watterson High School. Bollman said a knee injury Jon Skinner suffered in spring practice helped give Moses an opportunity.

Listening to Bollman, one would surmise that Kirk Barton and Alex Boone have locks on the tackle spots and that guard is mostly a three-man competition among Steve Rehring, Ben Person and Bryant Browning.

Rehring is the returning starter at left guard. But he came into camp slightly out of shape, and Browning has received some time with the first team.

"He came in maybe not quite like he would like," Bollman said of Rehring, "but he's working hard and playing real well and doing a good job. I'm not concerned about that at all. He'll be a big contributor, right like he has been."

Connor Smith is the other player Bollman mentioned as likely to see significant playing time.
