Jim Cordle and the Offensive Line Prepare for Michigan
Michigan has one of the best defensive lines in the country and the Buckeyes know it will be a battle to keep the running game going and to stop their pock penetration.

Heading into the Michigan game, red-shirt freshman offensive lineman Jim Cordle thinks the Michigan game along with two great road wins would be the highlight of the season. ?I don?t think there has been a specific highlight up this point. Hopefully, as every Michigan victory is, this Saturday will be the highlight. We have had a lot of plays that could be put on a highlight reel. Also, the way we went on the road early this year in big games and dominated is a source of pride for this team.?
Michigan has one of the best defensive lines in the country and the Buckeyes know it will be a battle to keep the running game going and to stop their pock penetration. ?Obviously for me and the rest of the O-line, the area of emphasis this week is their D-line. The guys they have up there are big and physical. They have handled every one of their opponents this year. We have practiced hard on our technique, and have been talking about how physical we have to be this week.?
Tressel is now 4-1 against the Wolverines since coming to Columbus to take over the head coaching job at Ohio State. With such a record the team might start to believe they have an advantage over their long-time rivals. But Jim doesn?t see their past performances as a reason to be comfortable. ?The thing about this team is that we are focused in on this year. I don?t think we are going into this game with confidence because of the record in recent years. However, we are going into this game with confidence because of the trust in one another that we have, and the cohesiveness of this team.?
Jim let us in on the tempo of the practices this week which might provide some insight into how the team performances this coming Saturday. ?The practices have been very upbeat. The excitement and anticipation of not only this game and all its national title and Big Ten title implications, but also of Senior Day and THE GAME have been fueling practices.? Senior Day is always a special time for the graduating players as it will be their final game in the Horseshoe. Last year during the Northwestern game, the players were brought off the field individually to the wild applause of everyone in the stadium. It is also great to see the player?s families present during introductions prior to the game.
Last year Coach Tressel inserted Andree Tyree into the starting line-up as an additional offensive tackle to create an unbalanced line improving the performance of the running game. This year, Coach Bill Conley believes something similar will be put in place. Jim Cordle also stated that Coach Tressel is ready with some new wrinkles in the game plan if there is a need. ?Coach Tressel has a few plays tucked under the sweater vest; hopefully we don?t have to use them.?
Of course, life in Columbus hasn?t been the same since Ohio State beat Northwestern and enter Michigan week undefeated against the 11-0 Wolverines. Fan support has always been something special at Ohio State and this weekend is setup to be one of the most spectacular displays of support for the team in recent memory. ?The fan support at The Ohio State University is always top notch, and I can?t imagine having better fans. The magnitude of this game just magnifies their support.? Jim told us.
