LANCASTER ? Jim Cordle had a smile on his face this past week as he received a hair cut at Julia?s Salon & Spa.
The 2005 Lancaster High School graduate interacted with patrons, posed for a picture with a child, and signed a picture of himself from his days with the Ohio State football team. All of it took place at a low-key fundraiser for Cordle?s nonprofit organization, the Cordle Cares Foundation. But the March 23 appearance was just part of the normal routine for a man who dedicates himself to giving.
?Volunteering has always been a passion of mine,? said Cordle, who plays for the NFL?s New York Giants. ?With the people I?ve been able to surround myself with, the foundation was just the way to go. It?s not like you want to go and tell everybody, ?Hey! I did this.? You just try to support the causes and get the community to rally around it.?
Cordle started his organization in fall 2011. The March 23 fundraiser at Julia?s was called Cordle Hair Day, in which $2 from every haircut or service was donated to the foundation. It was a simple gesture that raised a couple hundred dollars, but Cordle showed he will do whatever it takes to help the community.
The Cordle Cares Foundation raises money for cancer research, Fairfield County Special Olympics and a scholarship program Cordle created this year. He also has shown the desire to do countless acts of community service, whether for the foundation and not.
