LANCASTER ? Jim Cordle had a smile on his face this past week as he received a hair cut at Julia?s Salon & Spa.

The 2005 Lancaster High School graduate interacted with patrons, posed for a picture with a child, and signed a picture of himself from his days with the Ohio State football team. All of it took place at a low-key fundraiser for Cordle?s nonprofit organization, the Cordle Cares Foundation. But the March 23 appearance was just part of the normal routine for a man who dedicates himself to giving.

?Volunteering has always been a passion of mine,? said Cordle, who plays for the NFL?s New York Giants. ?With the people I?ve been able to surround myself with, the foundation was just the way to go. It?s not like you want to go and tell everybody, ?Hey! I did this.? You just try to support the causes and get the community to rally around it.?

Cordle started his organization in fall 2011. The March 23 fundraiser at Julia?s was called Cordle Hair Day, in which $2 from every haircut or service was donated to the foundation. It was a simple gesture that raised a couple hundred dollars, but Cordle showed he will do whatever it takes to help the community.

The Cordle Cares Foundation raises money for cancer research, Fairfield County Special Olympics and a scholarship program Cordle created this year. He also has shown the desire to do countless acts of community service, whether for the foundation and not.

New York Giants Re-Sign Backup C Jim Cordle to One-Year Deal
April 8th, 2013
By Doug Rush

medium_7979532979.jpg

Jim Cordle has had an exciting past 24 hours. On Sunday, he was in attendance along with many of his other New York Giants teammates for Wrestlemania XXIX, which was at MetLife Stadium, the home of the Giants. On Monday, the backup center re-signed with the Giants on a one-year deal for the 2013 season.

The deal between the Giants and Cordle, an Exclusive Rights Free Agent (ERFA), is a one-year pact worth around $480,000.

Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first one to break the news of the Giants re-signing the 25-year-old, which also mentioned the New York Jets resigning tight end Jeff Cumberland.

"Jets re-signed RFA TE Jeff Cumberland; Giants re-signed RFA C Jim Cordle," he tweeted.

The Giants tendered Cordle back on March 8, which meant because he had less than three years of professional experience, they had an exclusive rights tag on him, which also meant if Cordle didn't sign the tender, he would have to (essentially) retire from the NFL.

Cordle has barely played much for the Giants in the regular season on the offensive line, as David Baas sees the majority of the snaps at center during the year. However, he is used on the Giants special teams units during punt and kick returns. Cordle played in 15 of the Giants 16 regular season games in 2012.

Looking Forward to 2013 New York Giants? 53-Man Roster
Protecting Manning will be the task of an aging offensive line. The O-line went under the knife during the offseason and got a little younger with two draft picks in this years draft. Look for the veterans to start week one; Will Beatty at left tackle, Kevin Booth at left guard, David Bass at center, Chris Snee at right guard and David Diehl at right tackle.

The Giants? first-round pick Justin Pugh will compete with Diehl in camp this summer for right tackle. Along with Pugh, James Brewer and Brandon Mosley should make the competition for right tackle the most interesting story of preseason.

Jim Cordle will back up Bass at center bringing the total number of offensive lineman on the roster to nine.

New York Giants center, Jimmy Cordle stopped by Falls Elementary School Friday morning to deliver a $200 check to the students and faculty as part of a literacy challenge he started last year after learning about the need in the West Muskingum School District.

"Through The Second and Seven Foundation, we were able to bring Jimmy Cordle in and he inspired the children and challenged them to read many books and if they did, they would get a donation from the Cordle Cares Foundation. And you know what, he's a man of his word and he contacted us and said I'm ready to bring them the money," said Stephanie Winland, a parent volunteer at the school.

Cordle challenged the students to read five books each over the course of a school year, and they did. Cordle says he based his foundation off a Special Olympics bowling tournament he participated in while he was at OSU.

"That's how we started and then when we started the foundation, we branched out of a football camp and gave away scholarships and do these outreach programs. I came here with Second and Seven, which is another organization based out of Columbus that spreads literacy. Now they're launching satellites all around Ohio, not just Columbus, where they bring athletes to read to the kids and inspire the kids to read," said New York Giant, Jimmy Cordle.

Giants Roster Breakdown: Jim Cordle

By Ed Valentine on Jun 25 2013

Jim Cordle works out at the Timex Performance Center - Patrick McDermott

Jim Cordle has been a useful reserve offensive lineman for the Giants for the past two seasons. The addition of several young linemen appears to put Cordle's roster spot in jeopardy.

Jim Cordle is a player who seems like he has been around the New York Giants for a long time, yet one we have still seen very little of. Cordle is in the spotlight today as we continue our look at the 90-man roster the Giants will bring to training camp.
2012 Season In Review

Cordle, a backup guard/center, was active for all 16 games in 2012. He played 49 offensive snaps, seeing limited action action at both guard positions and center.
2013 Outlook

Cordle (@JimCordle63 on Twitter) spent the 2010 season with the Giants after signing out of Ohio State as an undrafted free agent. He made the practice squad again in 2011 and was eventually added to the active roster, appearing nine games. He would appear to have a serious challenge on his hands to make the roster again in 2013. Brandon Mosley, the 2012 fourth-round pick, is healthy after spending 2012 on IR. He has been working at guard. The Giants drafted offensive lineman Justin Pugh in the first round and guard Eric Herman in the seventh. Cordle, who turns 26 in August, would appear to be out of practice squad eligibility per NFL rules.

Former Buckeye Makes A Difference With Bowling Fundraiser (Video)
Posted: Jul 11, 2013
By: Denise Yost, Multimedia Content Manager - email

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

A former Buckeye football player and Super Bowl champion continues to make a difference in Central Ohio.

Jim Cordle, now in his third year with the New York Giants, has created the Cordle Cares Foundation. It's all about giving back to the community.

The foundation covers everything from outreach programs to scholarships.

This Saturday, the foundation will hold a Bowling With The Buckeyes event at Tiki Lanes in Lancaster, with proceeds going to the Special Olympics.

"It's a lot of fun. It's a thunder alley style where they have ultra violet lights. There's bowling, there's all kind of events going on, Buckeye players, the Special Olympians are involved in it, and we just tear up that bowling alley," Cordle said.

Over the last three years, Bowling With The Buckeyes has brought in $50,000 for the Special Olympics.

Cordle works out kinks in camp's second year
Jul. 13, 2013

LANCASTER ? ?This is good. The kids are tired.?

That?s what Jim Cordle was thinking Friday as the 126 kids attending his second annual Brian Sampson Memorial Youth Football Camp were eating lunch. The boys and girls were calm and quiet as they ate their box lunches provided for free by Max & Erma?s.

That wasn?t the case at the 2012 camp, and Cordle said there was an easy fix.

?Just more structure,? he said. ?That was our first year last year. I thought it went great, but we are ready to go this year.?

Cordle worked out the kinks. Not only did the camp improve in its organization, but it featured more volunteers and raised more money than the first camp. It helped the Cordle Cares Foundation to donate $5,000 to the Urban and Shelly Meyer Fund for Cancer Research in honor of Sampson, a former Lancaster football coach who died in 2010 after battling cancer.

The former Gales lineman is confident the camp only will get better over time. Lancaster coaches showed that so long as the camp exists, Cordle will have willing volunteers.

?It?s a blast,? defensive coordinator Andy Knuckles said. ?How can you not want to do something for Jimmy? We are lucky to have guys like that.?

Center of attention: With David Baas out for perhaps the next several weeks with an MCL injury, the Giants have to figure out who they will use as the starting center. They've moved Kevin Boothe to center in several practices in camp thus far. And when they do that, they have the option of either sliding David Diehl to left guard and using Justin Pugh or James Brewer at right tackle, or they can keep Diehl at right tackle and use Brewer or Pugh at left guard. Or they can start Jim Cordle like they did when Baas went down on the opening drive on Sunday night. Cordle played 42 snaps on Sunday, the most of any Giant.

"We are going to discuss that as we go along," Coughlin said. "There are plenty of opportunities to play going forward. Whatever decision we make, you'll have Cordle and the other centers all involved."

One man's injury is another man's chance to play, the NFL expression is "Next Man Up". Let's hope Jim makes the most of this opportunity.

It would be great to see another player from Lancaster have a "stellar" NFL career. :tongue2:

Cordle Looks Like The Odd Man Out for Giants
New York Giants unveil new offensive line configuration during practice.
BY JONATHAN CLEGG

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.?In his third year as an offensive lineman in the NFL, Jim Cordle has long since learned that injuries can occur at any moment.

So when he was unexpectedly sent in to join the Giants' first-string offense in the first quarter of Sunday's preseason game against the Colts, he wasn't unduly fazed by the situation.

But as the Giants broke the huddle and Cordle lumbered towards the line of scrimmage, the team's backup center found himself in an unusual position: His own.

NY-CN394_SP_GIA_D_20130820181936.jpg

Associated Press
New York Giants center Jim Cordle

Since his NFL career began in 2010, Cordle has appeared in some 25 games along the Giants offensive line. He has spent time at left and right tackle, and bounced between both guard positions. On one occasion, he even lined up as a tight end.

But when it comes to actually playing at center, his official position on the depth chart, the opportunities haven't been quite as plentiful as he's hoped. In fact, Cordle's entire regular-season career at center boils down to just 18 snaps.

"I think they're confident in me that I can be a center," Cordle said. "But we've got some veterans and some young guys drafted behind me. It's a versatile group."

With starting center David Baas sidelined with a knee injury and his availability for the regular-season opener on Sept. 8 in doubt, it had looked as though the Giants would finally give Cordle an extended audition at his favorite spot. He played at center on 42 of the team's 69 snaps Sunday after Baas left the game on the opening drive, and he didn't allow a sack or make any notable blunders.

But just like his other stints in the middle of the offensive line, Cordle's opportunity looks to have be over just as soon as it started. In Baas's absence, the Giants unveiled a new offensive line configuration during practice Tuesday, switching guard Kevin Boothe to center and shifting right tackle David Diehl inside. Justin Pugh, the team's first-round draft pick, will start in Diehl's old spot at right tackle.

"It's the best way for us to play right now," said coach Tom Coughlin. "We're trying to get a group on the field now that can work together, hopefully to prepare for the regular season."

Since Cordle joined the team in 2010, the Giants have been without their starting center for 15 games due to injury, but Cordle has never gotten a real opportunity to fill in. His first chance to show the Giants what he could do at center came early in the 2011 season in a game against the Seattle Seahawks. It lasted exactly one play.

"I snapped to Eli, it was a good play but then coach [Pat Flaherty] was yelling at me to go to guard because he didn't want any snaps messed up," Cordle said. "So after that, it was back to guard."

Cordle got nine snaps at center in the Giants' Week 3 meeting with Carolina last year, and a half-dozen plays with the starting unit in the season finale against Philadelphia, but only because Baas's shoe had come off.

It's not hard to fathom why the Giants have usually opted to go another route when plugging a hole in the middle of the offensive line. Before the snap, the center is expected to identify blitzing defenders and make adjustments to the blocking scheme, which makes experience a significant factor. When he got into Sunday's game against the Colts, Cordle said that Boothe and Chris Snee were already making the line calls before he'd had a chance to digest the defensive front. "Those guys are making calls before I can even get up to the line."

But Cordle didn't seem discouraged. By now, he knows that another opportunity could arise in an instant.

"We prepare very well here and I'm confident that I could get it done," he said. "You have to be ready for that."

Steppin' to the AM: Cordle time
August, 22, 2013
By Ohm Youngmisuk | ESPNNewYork.com

Jim Cordle played the most snaps of any Giant on Sunday against the Colts.

The Giants clearly liked what they saw because they are moving forward with him as the starting center for now with David Baas and David Diehl out. Instead of moving Kevin Boothe to center and starting James Brewer at left guard and keeping Justin Pugh at right tackle, the Giants opted to go with Cordle and keep Boothe at left guard while Pugh remains at right tackle. Brewer remains an option in the lineup if Tom Coughlin thinks there needs to be a change.

But Cordle knows this is his big chance to show what he can do after playing in 25 games during his career as a backup and on special teams. Cordle has come on in relief and shown he can play guard as well.

"We've got some veterans and we've got some young guys that have been drafted behind me," Cordle said of showing what he can do this preseason. "I think these two [remaining preseason] games are definitely critical. They're definitely going to make or break me."

Cordle should see plenty of action against the Jets on Saturday.

Cordle finding his center

By ZACH BRAZILLER
August 23, 2013
Giants Blog

The third preseason game is supposed to be the final warmup act before the real games begin, but for Giants lineman Jim Cordle, Saturday night?s game against the Jets may as well be the Super Bowl.

A third-year center, who has played in 25 games as a backup, not only will get the start on the Giants? injury-riddled offensive line, but also will be reunited with former Ohio State teammate Nick Mangold, the Jets? center.

?I came in [to Ohio State] and got to learn from the best: Nick Mangold,? Cordle said yesterday of backing up Mangold for three years at the Big Ten powerhouse. ?He took me in and taught me a lot that definitely helped me out.?

If Cordle, who turned 26 yesterday, performs well enough against the Jets, there is a chance he could start Week 1 in Dallas, depending on the injury status of incumbent David Baas, who suffered a sprained left medial collateral ligament in Sunday?s loss to the Colts.

?I believe in myself, so I?m excited for the opportunity,? the 6-foot-3, 320-pound Cordle said. ?To be out there with the first group is exciting. For me, I?m still playing for my job. I look at it that way.?

It will be a big opportunity for Cordle, the chance to show his wares against a blitz-happy defense.
