Enter Jim Cordle. The 2005 Lancaster graduate and New York Giant was active in town all week, hosting a youth football camp Friday and his annual Bowling With Buckeyes event Saturday. Both were part of his non-profit organization, the Cordle Cares Foundation. After participating in the bowling event Saturday, it's difficult not have a more softened stance on the Buckeyes.
The passion Cordle has for community service is evident. He's not just a pro athlete going through the motions because it makes him look good. The name of his organization is more than just catchy alliteration. It's true. He cares. It's easy to tell, as he took time Friday to talk with all the kids at the football camp. Saturday was the same: Signing more autographs, showing off his Super Bowl ring and talking with all the bowlers who were there from the Special Olympics and the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Bowling with Buckeyes raised thousands of dollars for the Fairfield County Special Olympics (an exact amount wasn't available by press time). Another $2,500 was raised at Friday's football camp for cancer research.
"This is just what I love doing," Cordle said Friday.
