Cordle talks for several minutes about what it's like for him to change positions, how the line struggled at Purdue, and facing Doug Worthington in practice.

THE FOURTH MAN:@ The fourth captain for the Iowa game is OL Jim Cordle.
Cordle excited for Michigan game, Rose Bowl
BY JOE ARNOLD ? The Eagle-Gazette Staff ? November 18, 2009
LANCASTER -- Jim Cordle remembers vividly the last time Ohio State played in a Rose Bowl. He watched as former Buckeye quarterback Joe Germaine engineered a game-winning drive that sent Ohio State to a 20-17 win against Arizona State.
Cordle has a chance to be a part of such football lore, as the offensive lineman and the Buckeyes -- with a 27-24 overtime win against Iowa last week -- clinched a spot in Pasadena for the Jan. 1 game.
"It's obviously pretty cool to get back to the Rose Bowl," he said. "You could tell last week that the atmosphere around here was different. Walking to the Skull Session, everyone was yelling 'Rose Bowl' and had roses. You could tell people really wanted the Rose Bowl. It's so special for Ohio State."
But Cordle, selected an offensive captain selected for last week's game, isn't overlooking the Buckeyes' opponent this week. Ohio State will visit Ann Arbor to face Michigan.
Cordle said assistant coach and former player Luke Fickell addressed the team at practice and warned them against overlooking the Wolverines. Fickell was on the 1996 team that locked up a Rose Bowl berth but then lost to a sub-par Wolverines team in the season finale.
"It's all good and well, but we have to forget about it for a week," Cordle said of the trip to Pasadena. "It's going to be my last regular season game. Riding up there on the bus will be crazy.
"I can remember dressing up for the game in Ohio State stuff when I was at St. Mary and watching it. Now I'm playing in it. It's special."

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Jim Cordle wards off Iowa defenders in his spot at left tackle, only the latest position he's played on the offensive line.
Along with the rest of the kids at St. Mary Elementary School in Lancaster, Jimmy Cordle had to wear the school uniform -- white dress or polo shirt and navy slacks -- except during the week of the Ohio State-Michigan game.
"We got to dress up in either Ohio State or Michigan clothes; that was fun," Cordle recalled. "And we got to cheer -- if you were a Michigan fan, you got to cheer in the P.A. system, and if you were an Ohio State fan you got to cheer, and then they'd measure who had the highest cheer."
Maybe that was practice for his postgame outburst last week. Cordle, a senior offensive lineman, caused a scene in the interview room when he jumped up, dumped water on himself and shouted in celebration of Ohio State's 27-24 overtime win over Iowa.
"I was just sitting there listening to the guys, and I was excited, so I just showed it a little bit," he said.
And 75% of the time Jimmy's effective all the time.GomerBucks;1598786; said:I have said it before, but Jim is a good lineman with a brilliant football mind. He understands the game and has a great grasp of the system. 50% of the game is half mental, and Jimmy uses all of it to be able to play in any of those five spots. While he hasnt been the most dominating guy we have had on the line, he is the ONLY one currently there who could do the same thing so well...
Oh, and a side note, that soundbite of him pouring the water over his head is probably my favorite lineman clip ever because knowing Jim for a few years, he has really come into his own. He was so quiet and reserved before and to see him be able to be on the podium as a senior captain and be able to enjoy winning like he has. I love that he is truly living in the moment!

Just kidding witcha. I like Jim Cordle as well. He may not have all the God given talent that some others have, but no one out-works him.
Offensive lineman Jim Cordle created a minor stir when he expressed some reservations over the style of cleats Ohio State will wear with the throwback uniforms against Michigan.
"I'm concerned about our Nike shoes," Cordle said. "The cleats that they have, we tried them on early in camp and everybody was rolling their ankles. I mean, they roll hard."
This, of course, leads to concerns that the Buckeyes might somehow get players injured or, even worse, lose to Michigan because of problems related to the switch to the 1954-style uniforms.
But other players said that if they didn't like the new shoes, they would simply wear the old ones. A Nike spokesman said later that four different designs of the shoes are available, so chances are the players can find ones they like.
Cordle versatile for Ohio State

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State?s Jim Cordle can play any role he?s asked to perform.
On the football field. And in the classroom.
Cordle, a fifth-year offensive lineman, has played four positions over the last two seasons for the Buckeyes.
He?s listed as the starting left tackle for OSU?s game at Michigan on Saturday. He began the year at right tackle before surgery to repair a foot injury took him out of the lineup for five games.
He was the starting center in 2007 and early last year before he was moved to guard.
And when the marketing major took a theater class as an elective, he discovered he enjoyed taking on new roles there, too.
?I took it just for an easy ?A,? basically. I was expecting it not to be interesting at all but we had a really good teacher,? Cordle said about his foray into the world of drama.
?It was fun to read plays and I never thought it would be. Then we had to go watch performances. I went to see ?Tecumseh? down in Chillicothe. But probably the most fun was we had to do a play at the end and my group was (fellow football players) Keith Wells, Travis Howard and Ohrian Johnson. We did a parody on reality TV.?
Well-suited for football wars
Cordle's high pain threshold inspires fellow Buckeye offensive linemen
BY JON SPENCER ? CentralOhio.com ? November 20, 2009
COLUMBUS -- He's two wins away from becoming part of the winningest senior class in Ohio State history, which would be a nice legacy for offensive tackle Jim Cordle, a 2005 Lancaster graduate, to leave behind.
Except that fellow lineman Connor Smith thinks Cordle's lasting imprint has more to do with fashion than football.
In last week's game program, underclassmen were asked their most admirable senior trait. Smith's answer: Jimmy Cordle's style.
Turns out Smith was being facetious. You won't find Cordle in GQ. He's more likely to be the first guest on the makeover show "Queer Eye for the Buckeye."
"I came in here, this goofy kid from Lancaster, who had no fashion sense at all," said the fifth-year senior, who will start at left tackle -- his fourth different position as a Buckeye -- in Saturday's game at Michigan. "I wore whatever I wanted to. I'd wear sandals, dress socks, gym shorts and a nice colored shirt to class ... if you can picture that.
"I even wore dress socks to practice once, and that didn't go over well. I've got a girlfriend, and she's slowly brought me around."
ntd;1598499; said:I forgot about that stint at left guard...correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Cordle started at every offensive line position? I know he has been criticized in a lot of circles for his performance (and rightly so, but I think some of that has to do with playing out of his natural position), but even his critics would have to admit that is impressive.
