Redshirt sophomore Matt Burrell replaced Bowen and played well, but Meyer wants to see some competition emerge among the contenders.
“Next man up, right now looks like Matt Burrell,” he said. “And we’ll see if there’s any competition at that spot. That’s alarming, but Matt played okay. So we’ll see what happens there.”
Redshirt juniors Malcolm Pridgeon and Demetrius Knox will also compete for the right guard spot, just as they did in the preseason.

As for fourth-year junior Branden Bowen, he started OSU's first six games of the 2017 season at right guard. However, a broken leg ended his season.
Bucknuts asked Day about Bowen, and Day expects that Bowen will be able to help the offensive line sooner rather than later. But Day added that Bowen is still not 100 percent coming off the leg injury.

Ohio State offensive lineman Branden Bowen has gone back under the knife.
Early Thursday morning, Bowen posted a photograph of himself in a hospital bed with a location tag at Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center and a caption that read "Third surgery's a charm?"
