Boone is MVP of Ohio State media corps By RUSTY MILLER AP Sports Writer
Published on Wednesday Oct 08, 2008
In marked contrast to his head coach, Ohio State offensive tackle Alex Boone isn't afraid to let it all hang out. Ask him a question _ any question _ and he'll offer an honest, usually funny, answer.
He vows that coach Jim Tressel has never told him what to say and not to say.
"Me? No. No, they know I'm pretty respectful about people and things," he said this week during preparations for Saturday's game between the 12th-ranked Buckeyes and Purdue. "They just tell me not to swear. I swear a lot."
Following in the mammoth cleats of fellow lineman Kirk Barton _ always ready to crack wise, detail a colorful story or tell a joke _ Boone is this year's most desired interview by the sizable corps of reporters who cover the Buckeyes.
Toss him a subject, and he's just liable to write your story for you.
For instance, a couple of weeks ago Tressel declined to say anything bad about Ohio State fans who booed quarterback Todd Boeckman. Even when given a second chance to castigate the boo birds, Tressel would only say, "It's disappointing, but we're certainly not going to sit and scold anybody."
Boone didn't have that problem.
He ripped into those who booed, calling them rude and disrespectful.
A senior majoring in history, Boone likes to talk. A lot.
On the subject of those black, horizontal smudges under the eyes that so many of his teammates personalize with messages, he said it was best that he not wear them.

i'm surprised there have been no posts re: Boone since Saturday. He was limping around most of the game, Apparently nothing serious.

AND he didnt speak with the media after the game. I think he needs to start talking with his game, and play the way we all know he can. Lead this team, then laugh it up w the reporters.

Well, since you asked ...

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Benjamin Franklin invented the lightning rod in 1749, but it took 259 years to perfect it in the shape of Alex Boone.
The 6-foot-8, 315-pound Ohio State offensive tackle is big of body and big of mouth. He attracts attention -- and sparks -- by saying whatever comes to mind.
Boone has no safeguards, no spam filters. He thinks it and says it.
"He doesn't mince words," older brother J.J. Boone said.
After losing to Louisiana State in January's national championship game, it was Alex Boone who said players were arguing among themselves as the Buckeyes unraveled.
At Southern California in September, Boone was the guy talking in amazement about his teammates hanging their heads in the locker room at halftime.

Alex being Alex

A sampling of opinions from the often-outspoken Alex Boone:

ON FANS BOOING QUARTERBACK TODD BOECKMAN IN OHIO STADIUM:
"I thought it was very rude and disrespectful. For somebody to boo a player who took us to a championship, that shows no respect for that player. He didn't play so great against USC, but who did? We all got smashed."
ON COACH JIM TRESSEL SERVING AS ASSISTANT LINE COACH:
"He was screaming and yelling at you, and was on you about playing faster -- but that's the thing that we needed. We were just lazy and slow, and you could see that when you watched us. I think we just needed a kick in the rear, absolutely. That's kind of like how a lot of us are; we need to get yelled at to play better."

Here's a great Ozone shot of Boone giving Beanie the assist on the long TD against Northwestern.

Just a play or 2 before he got the penalty for head-butting the guy, Alex's guy tried an outside pass rush, and Boone shoved him way back to the goal line - it was on the play that Pryor scrambled a little and then hit Sanzenbacher by the sideline.

Yes, it was kind of stupid b/c he got called for the personal foul, but I LOVED Boone's head butt that knocked NW #36 flat on his back. Apparently, they were talking smack and trying to get in our heads. That prick shoved Boone first and probably wouldn't do it again. He also was almost immediately called for a late hit.

Alex Boone
Offensive tackle

Lakewood, Ohio | Age: 21

Parting thought on whether he regrets not leaving early for the NFL: "Never. If I lived in regret I would be an unhappy person right now. I'm happy about my decision. If I had left, I would have felt like I let this team down, and that's just one of the things I can't do. I'm a very emotional person. I love these guys. ... It has been an honor, privilege and a crazy and good time. It has been a thrill ride of a lifetime and something I will never forget."

WHAC

Alex Boone, please be in the WHAC right now. Please. You know how you get drafted in the 1st round? Manhandle a first rounder. This is your chance to prove something.

Hopefully the years of going against Gholston will give you some good experience against Orakpo!

If he is at the WHAC I hope it is on the treadmill and not just lifting weights. His issues against Dlineman have been more with the ones that would go around him rather than try to move him and go through him.
