OL Alex Boone (Official Thread)

Scary thing is that he might have been chewing gum. I know cops have to give you something like 20 minutes before you can take a blow since gum has some sort of alcohol in it that will register.

No. The BAC registers deep lung air to register how drunk you are. The 20 minute period is so that no one can claim they put anything in their mouth to alter or interfere with the test. It also avoids the detection of any mouth alcohol on the BAC mouth piece.

On a side note, I think some on here would be much happier if Boone had just trafficked some drugs.

How long before this shows up on ESPN?

I know (but do not understand why) some college students feel alcohol is a "part" of college life. Boonie has the world in his palm in his position, and just flirting with this kind of error in judgement hopefully will make him sit up and reevaluate things. I can only hope he will take positive things out of this.

Was it a boneheaded decision? Yes.

Does that give us the right to bash a kid? No.

Do we suddenly gain the right to do so if we never drive drunk? No.

Is it hard to not shake your head or say something unkind? Yes.

I think I'll wait to see the police report on this one. Driving "drunk" and blowing 0.02 = almost meaningless. Driving "drunk" and blowing .08+ = not a good idea.
Driving and blowing a 0.02 (while being involved in an accident) = not smart...in fact, plain stupid.

Does that give us the right to bash a kid? No.
Actually, to a small extent, it does. There's a big difference between ripping a kid for not playing up to our expectations despite giving his all, and jumping in a kid's case for a totally boneheaded move.

Just drinking a partial beer gives you a .02. Coming from a college kid, there is no reason to drive when you are on campus at all when drunk, but you all need to wait until more information comes out regarding the situation! He might not have even been drunk, buzzed, or anythin; might have had one beer, which is still against the law in Ohio. SO just wait and give it time instead of saying punish him this much, do this do that. You all were our age once and know how it is in college.

"You all were our age once and know how it is in college" is not a valid excuse. No one is calling for Alex's head, but no one should blow this off as a simple "college life" thing, either. He's a member of one of the most storied college football programs in the country, and as such must behave in a manner far above that of a normal college student...period.

i must respectfully disagree. i'm sure that Joe Schmoe student at Ohio State got a DUI on Sat night as well, and no one cares. the only difference is the UNREAL amount of importance that is placed on an essentially meaningless game. just because someone possesses above average talent in one area or another does not mean that he should be held to a different standard than the general student population. let the law run its due course and be done with it.

Boone has made a mistake and I am sure some of us on this board have made mistakes in our lives up to this point, not excusing what he did at all, lets just hope this is his "wake-up" call so to speak and he has no further issues while he is at tOSU.

Bottom line.....not a good decision on his part, but it can be overcome in time....
