In July of 2021 he signed an extension thru 2026 for $2.5mm annually. Bolted for Oklahoma three days shy of five months later… ten days before the early signing period.

Did that contract have a buy out or other “out” that allowed Venables to exit early if he took a head coaching job? Most likely it did….and if so then his actions were what the parties expected.

In contrast to the coaches that complain about players sitting out bowl games, I believe Day, and Urban before him, have (at least publicly) fully supported the OSU players who want to protect their NFL futures.
