Buckeyes win doubles point, O'Keefe posts singles victory

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's tennis team was eliminated from the 2007 Big Ten Championship with a 4-2 loss to Iowa in the quarterfinals Friday in Minneapolis, Minn. The No. 5-seed Buckeyes won the doubles point in the match, but dropped four singles matches to the No. 4-seed Hawkeyes. The No. 46-ranked Buckeyes drop to 18-10 on the year. Iowa now is 12-9 and will face top-seed Northwestern in the semifinals Saturday.
The Buckeyes won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point. The No. 2 duo of Caitlin O'Keefe (Jr., Troy, Mich./Troy) and Sonia Ruzimovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) opened with an 8-3 victory Merel Beelen and Hillary Mintz. The tandem of Angela DiPastina (Titusville, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) and Christina Keesey (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) then downed Kayla Berry and Kelcie Klockenga, 8-6. The Hawkeyes tied the match with Mintz's victory over Keesey at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1), followed by Milica Veselinovic's win over Julie Blackmore (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) at No. 1 (6-1, 6-3). O'Keefe won at No. 3 over Berry (6-4, 6-4) to tie the match at 2-all. Jacqueline Lee put Iowa back on top with a win against Ally Mueller (Fr., Roswell, Ga./New Braunfels (Texas) at No. 1 (7-6 (4), 6-4) and Beelen clinched the victory with a three-set victory over Ruzimovsky at the fourth spot (6-2, 2-6, 6-4).
