Ohio State Women's Ice Hockey (2022 WCHA Champions, 2022, 2024 National Champions)

And then followed it up with a 6-1 win.

OHIO STATE WOMEN’S HOCKEY SOLIDIFIES ITS STANDING AS NO. 1 TEAM WITH BACK-TO-BACK BLOWOUT WINS OVER NO. 2 MINNESOTA

Ohio State solidified its standing as the best team in women’s college hockey with its performance at Minnesota this weekend.

Minnesota entered the weekend as the No. 2 team in the country, but the Golden Gophers proved to be no match for the top-ranked Buckeyes, who defeated Minnesota on its home ice by a combined score of 13-1 across two games.

Freshman forward Joy Dunne led the Buckeyes to victory in the first game with a hat trick. Graduate forward Hannah Bilka also scored three goals on the weekend, following up a two-goal game on Friday with another goal on Saturday. Seven other Buckeyes contributed one goal each between the two games.

Ohio State improved to 18-2 on the season with the pair of wins, its first two games of the 2024 calendar year.

Two years removed from winning the first national championship in program history, Ohio State made it clear this weekend that it will be the team to beat for the national title once again this year.

Hot damn I can't think of a hotter coach in the country right now, maybe Kirby or Mulkey. I love it and I hope that shit rubs off on the other coaches in Columbus!

Headed into the stretch run this weekend. We get the bottom three teams in the conference the next three weekends, so barring a mental breakdown, we should head into the final weekend in Madison against the #2 Badgers having at least clinched a tie for the regular season title since we're currently 6 points ahead. Cheese has a much harder next three weeks playing #10 St Cloud State and #4 Minnesota before finishing with us, so everything could be wrapped up before we even get to Madison.

I watched the end of the 1st period and the last 2 periods of the game last night. Bucks were outshot 19-2 in the first period, but there was no score. Wisky scored early in the 2nd, and then it was like the Bucks decided it was time to play. Bucks ended up with a 34-29 shot advantage (32-10 after the first period) and totally dominated. These girls are fun to watch.
