Game Thread Ohio State vs Penn State, 10/28/17 @ 3:30 ET (FOX)

Swapped out the broken TV in the three season room, but forgot to toss the old remotes.

So the good news is I've got a good three or four spares ready to fastball into the wall when one of the kickers fades a KO out between the hashes to Saquon Barkley.

The only reason OSU lost this game last year was because of special teams. Since the Army game this is the only thing that really makes my sphincter pucker heading into Penn St week.

I know and I can't say it enough... The special teams in this game are what without a doubt scare me the most. Are we really going to rely on freshman/back ups to tackle the best RB in college football on a kickoff? Gun to my head if asked "will they return one or not" I would say they do. We should not be kicking to that guy he's too explosive and far too strong for us to be asking 210 pound wide receivers to be tackling him.

protecting the field goal and covering the kickoffs very well could decide the game again. If it's me you let them start at the 25 everytime but you under no circumstances let them return one. Especially after we score we cannot let them get a quick answer that would be a momentum killer. I know these kickers have the leg to reach the end zone but we just choose not to do it. This game I hope they do.

Jonah Lomu from the All Blacks entered the 1995 Rugby World Cup as a man who could not be taken down. The Springboks, with Mandela in the stand as depicted in the movie Invictus, took the 6'5" 265 lb Lomu apart in defense. From the opening, they tackled him to the ground with fierce determination:

The full game:

The Springboks entered that game as much as a 15 point underdog. What was theI have stood in Mandela's cell on several occasions. When you look out the window through the bars, you can barely see a small grape vine where he hid bits and pieces of Long Walk to Freedom on scraps of papers.

I have stood in that quarry thinking about the work that damaged his eyes for life because of the limestone dust and thought of him having to relieve himself in buckets in that cave across the quarry because no toilets were provided them.

Who is the master of this team's fate? Who is the captain of their soul?

What will this win do to propel them toward an ultimate prize? I think the 1995 Springboks are a real parallel.

Wait, is Saquan supposed to represent Jonah Lomu? Because he racked up 56 yards on 20 carries against Indiana and was held to 0 yards vs Northwestern through the first half. In fact, he was -1 yard on his first 8 carries. He ended that game with 75 yards total and those mostly came from one run he broke off for 50+ yards.

Not exactly legendary numbers against inferior opponents. Not trying to rain on your comparison, just sayin’... kid is far from unstoppable.

I agree. Barkley had my Heisman vote up until these past 2 stinkers against mediocre competition. He is a stud, but I think his Heisman run will be either solidified or ended in these next 3 games (UM, OSU, MSU). And I'm leaning towards the latter bc I think all 3 of these teams have good enough defenses and coaches that they are going to do everything they can to take him away. He'll put up some numbers (hopefully not against OSU) but not Heisman-type numbers.

The fucker busted one--count 'em, one--long run against North-fucking-western. He had 75 yards on 16 carries, 53 of which came on that sole long run, which means he was held to 22 yards on the other 15 carries (less than 1.5 ypc). Even Indiana bottled him up to the tune of 56 yards on 20 carries (2.8 ypc), with a longest of 8 yards. I guarantee you that if we hold Barkley under 3 ypc with no run longer than 8 yards, we blow them out...
