Game Thread Ohio State vs Michigan State - 10/05/19, 7:30PM (ABC)

Later today, the Homecoming Queen and King will be announced before the game against Michigan State, but she emphasized that the group is not competitive with one another. All in all, this weekend is an opportunity for alumni and students to celebrate their time at Ohio State.

1) MICHAEL GEIGER
Most people don’t know this guy by name.

They do, however, know his stupid air guitar celebration after beating Ohio State in 2015.

Fun fact, today (i.e. Oct 4th) is his birthday. I hope its miserable.

Today is the 5th... which is what he’ll need after the beatdown tonight.

This is the best one....

Is it even right to call them Michigan State, or are they just that team even more up North?

MSU, we have to hate you because you’re the little brother of the Buckeyes biggest rival. So that makes you a rival by association. I mean, the song is the whole state of Michigan, after all.

So after we whup up on you, go tell your brother. They can get this work too.

An Ohio State fan should be more careful with THE definite article. An indefinite article is what’s called for here.

THE 5th is the thing that only benefits people with the wisdom to exercise it, which is so seldom the people who most need it.

What he’ll need after the beatdown tonight is A fifth.

...

I’ll see myself out

I can dislike Sparty for some historic bad beats over the years but I can’t hate them.

They are the mortal enemy of my mortal enemy and other than once a decade or so they are completely irrelevant to OSU’s normal course of business.

The second level nature of their program keeps their fans mostly in their place. They are nowhere near tsun, ND or Pedsters.

Just can’t bring myself to feel anything other than normal game day hate.

This pretty much hits my feeling as well. I have a couple friends who are MSU grads. Nice guys actually.

PREVIEW: OHIO STATE FINISHES FIRST HALF OF REGULAR SEASON WITH HOME NIGHT GAME AGAINST MICHIGAN STATE

107434_h.jpg

After four straight wins of at least 41 points and a week of being hyped up as one of the best teams in the country, there might be reason to worry about the Ohio State football team getting complacent and taking its foot off the gas pedal against a seemingly inferior opponent.

A look at the Buckeyes’ recent history against Michigan State, though, should be enough to ensure they don’t overlook this week’s opponent.

Ohio State has lost three times to Michigan State in the past eight years – more than any other opponent in that span – including a 34-24 loss in 2013 that cost the Buckeyes a trip to the final BCS National Championship Game, and a 17-14 loss in 2015 that cost them a return trip to the College Football Playoff.

The Buckeyes have won their last three games against Michigan State, so only the team’s fifth-year seniors have personally experienced a loss to the Spartans. But Ryan Day wants to make sure all of his players are aware of those losses headed into Saturday night’s game at Ohio Stadium.
“It's important to know the history of the two teams, and when they've played, what's happened and what you're up against each week,” Day said this week. “This is a team that’s come in and won a bunch of big games. They’ve gone on to win the conference, and they’ve also been spoilers. So we have to be ready to play these games, and that’s what we’re up against.
