The Ohio State Buckeyes got back on track Saturday afternoon, with a 66 point whipping of the Golden Flashes of Kent State. The Buckeyes scored on their opening possession & never looked back. Redshirt Freshman Quarterback J.T. Barrett tied the Ohio State record for touchdown passes in a game, with 6, while also completing 76% of his passes for 312 yards. The Buckeye running game also found success, rushing for 284 yards on 53 attempts.

The offense wasn't the only unit to find success, as the Silver Bullets were also flying. The Ohio State defense secured their first shutout since the 56-0 victory over Purdon't in 2013, while also holding the Golden Flashes to a total of 126 yards.

With so many Buckeyes making plays, who gets your pick for Offensive & Defensive players of the game? Vote above & discuss below!

My Monday review (might become a weekly thing, I try to pick up the smaller details and not just the holistic result):

1) My first general impression: Kent State was a very, very bad team. I mean awful. But even given that, we beat them like we should have and our execution was impressive on both sides of the ball.

2) Seeing how good Jalyn Holmes looks makes me feel a bit better about the Spence situation...he can bring that dynamic and while he does not have the same ability as Spence quite yet, he has many of the same tools and can bring that quick rush off the edge. Very long, quick, and bigger than I thought. I was thinking a redshirt but no way now imo, kid needs to be playing right away, even if the position is deep. He simply has some tools that Steve Miller and Frazier do not have. I could at least see Holmes getting out there on 3rd downs.

3) Even aside from the stat sheet numbers and an anemic KSU defense, JT was extremely sharp. So many of those throws were on the money and the windows were tighter than I thought for many of his throws and he delivered almost every time. Often he was checking down to his 3rd and 4th progressions to get the open guy. Even on those swings passes and screens, I remember Braxton missing those passes all too often or not leading his receiver properly.

4) I love watching our big, rangy secondary flying around. Looking much more like the Silver Bullet secondaries we used to have. They have the talent, size, and they are looking more confident every game. I really think that by the end of the year, this is going to be a very good secondary (hell, they are pretty good already).

5) I would like to see our DL finish off sacks more often. They are right there but always seem to just miss it. The disruption is great and I know you're not going to get a sack every time you're back there, but I'd like to see a few more.

6) Don't want to pick on the kid but if Cam Williams is ever seeing meaningful PT for us at LB, we will be in big trouble. Thus far, it looks like a rotation of Perry, Grant, Lee, McMillan, Worley, and maybe some T. Williams is the recipe (I thought Trey looked better than Worley). I also think the LB unit has played fairly well and will only get better with time. Perry and Lee have really impressed me, the Chef looked good yesterday, and I honestly think Grant has been solid.

7) The OL kicked some ass. I know KSU doesn't have a good DL but neither did Navy and we struggled all day with them. We looked a lot better there. I would have been very concerned if we struggled Saturday and we did not. Keep improving guys.

8) Really good tackling in the open field from our young guys in the 2nd half. Makes me feel good about the emphasis on fundamentals with Ash.

9) Seeing the likes of McMillan, Holmes, Booker, E. Smith, Webb, etc. team up on plays just makes me grin about our future. This freshman class is going to be excellent.

10) Johnnie Dixon is a fast cat, I want to see some more of him.

Honestly, I don't see other choices. I mean, other guys had good games, but those two had their official coming out party.

Maaaaaaaybe Josh Perry, but Raekwon still out performed him, imo.

I went with the same two as you (Kwon and JT) but I will say that Michael Thomas had a great day. Trying to prove he's not the next Bam Childress (a Spring Football warrior that disappears in the Fall). I can't wait to see this team in the middle of the season at full tempo.
