For some reason you made me think of a great Bill Hosket story. I saw Bill speak at a dinner one time. He was talking about the 1968 Olympics. He said during the opening ceremonies, he was next to Al Oerter, who was there to win his 4th gold in the shot put. Hosket says when he recognized him, he introduced himself and added, "I was Dayton, Ohio city champ in shot put." Al didn't say anything at the time, but later in the ceremony they released a bunch of doves and shot off fireworks, the doves start shitting everywhere. Al Oerter pulls out a piece of cardboard, holds it over his head to block the shit, turns to Hosket and says, "City champ, huh?"
