Ohio State vs #14 Wisconsin (official game thread)

We haven't played man all year that I've seen. Doubt Matta's going to do it now.

The zone is fine if it is played properly. We do it well in spurts, but the letdowns happen and we give up open looks from three.

We really need a BIG second half.

I can't really speak about whether the fouls on Butch or legitimate because CBS refused to cut away, and instead remained with the academic Syracuse v. Notre Dame finish, but his absence completely took Wisconsin out of their rhythm. It's difficult to make up any ground when you have no size inside to stop the opponent from corralling offensive boards or scoring gimme layups. It shows that Wisconsn is one injury away again this season so health is paramount. Bo Ryan always has 2-3 wasted scholarships essentially between walk-ons and redshirts.

Why do we play the zone? I hate relying on it exclusively. I'd rather play man to man with quirks (including going to a zone, etc.). At least change things up!

it's a trip because there was no zone at the beginning of the season, and since Matta put it in, they never leave it...

Good thing for Buckeyes fans you're not the coach. A zone gave us fits for the most part in the first half and has since the beginning of Bo Ryan's tenure.

that's what I'm thinking

the zone has been phenomenal today. The bucks are getting after it. Hands up and active. Good rebounding (aided by Butch's absence). There was a 1 or 2 minute letdown when Wisky caught fire from 3, but the D is looking great today.

Actually I am a coach, but thanks for the vote of confidence, and a well played man to man defense is always preferable to a zone. We have given way to many open looks because players are not rotating correctly. At a minimum the Bucks need to give them some different looks in the second half.

That's the key, well played. I think our personnel is more suited to zone but I agree with the idea of mixing in some different looks - including man. I don't like playing any defense exclusively.

the D is the only thing that looks good every game... i'm not worried about the D. it's the fact that they have this tendency to shoot 68% from the field in the first half and 28% in the second half (seemingly every game) that has me worried... will these guys ever put it together this year?

matchups, coach. Good thing you aren't THE coach. I have watched about 1,000 more hours of Wisconsin game film than you. Play the zone.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Ohio State needs more offensive production from Diebler (0-1), Turner (0-2), and/or Lighty (1-5) in the 2nd half. Fortunately for the Buckeyes Hunter came to play today (4-6, 9 points).

As long as we continue to hit the boards (which we have so far in the 2nd half), I have faith that we can pull this one out
