Two-Minute Drill: Urban Meyer Post-Practice Updates 10.17.18

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer answered questions from reporters following practice early Wednesday evening. He provided updates on his team, including who is healthy and who isn’t. He also touched on Saturday’s upcoming matchup at Purdue and the difficulties that the Boilermakers will present to the Buckeyes. Here are the highlights.

+ The receivers have really developed over the last two years.

+ There is some resting of veterans right now, especially with injuries. They have to take mental reps instead of physical reps. You start moving scout team guys to backup roles in practice and it has a trickle-down effect.

+ Brian Hartline has improved a lot in the tactical department. He has also brought instant credibility to the position and the players have immense respect for him.

+ Guys practice one-handed catches and have fun with it. “They practice it all the time.” It’s more about having fun for them.

+ Freshman defensive end Tyreke Smith continues to come on. He is getting better and better and better. He has a great future. It’s unusual to play as much as he is as a true freshman. “Tyreke’s a very gifted guy.”

+ Meyer has had conversations with the team about Nick Bosa’s departure. From day one, the Bosa family have been great people.

+ Jeff Brohm is very aggressive and creative.

+ They have been working hard to fix the short-yardage and the running game for several weeks now. They have been enhancing their strengths and working on their weaknesses.

+ Tate Martell could be involved? “Sure.”

+ Ohio State isn’t the only team that has issues in the red zone or in short-yardage. You can’t do the same stuff in the red zone that you do other places on the field.

+ Isaiah Prince had a great start against Minnesota, but then he struggled against Carter Coughlin. He finished strong and then had a great week of practice.

Weather game alert

could be some rain, definitely some wind

that will affect Purdue as much as OSU though. They are absolutely a pass first team.
Yeah I saw that and IMO it hurts both teams equally.. I think Purdue is more reliant down the field than we are so it may help us a little more than them.

We really like the throws under 15 yards and have shown we will be patient. I think they're more aggressive and impatient than us.

Run game better come to play this one
