I seem to remember you had played against Roddick or some other pro or high level competition.
I never played against Roddick because he was a few years older and always playing up, but I played with him down at Evert. I was never that good, always hovered around top 40/50 in Florida from 16's up.(when it really mattered) I played Orange Bowl and Eddie Herr and all the Super Nats, but never wanted to play college tennis and never entertained offers I received, but I played against probably 10 or 15 kids playing in the singles tournie.

Bryan, Steven and Justin are all playing in the first round.
It is hard to monitor all the play but Steven won the first set in a breaker, Justin dropped the first set but is up a break in the second
and Bryan is up a break in the first.
Buckeye fans can watch online at

And if you have difficulty identifying the players. . .
tOSU is a right handed team.
the opponents today are all lefties.

Moneke survives and advances to the next round with a 7-6, 7-6 win over lefty #1.
Bryan with an easier win over lefty #2 by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Justin is in a 3rd set battle with lefty #3. He is down a break and is clearly fatigued.
A couple huge upsets today, #4 seed Lucaks of Baylor and #8 seed Robert Farah of USC who dropped a 7-5, 7-6 battle against Bruno. Have to believe that 3 setter yesterday took a toll on his conditioning and endurance.

Edit; Kronauge lost in the 3rd set finishing his tournament. great season though Justin. Get some rest and get ready for the doubles event.

It's all good, my boy Michael Venus got him in the next round.

Too bad for Justin but as Ballin notes Kronauge would have had an out of this world test from the next round's opponent.
On the positive side, the next two seeds that Bryan and Steven would have faced were eliminated today.
Third seeded Koniecko was in a bracket with # 8 seed Farah from USC. They would have potentially matched up again in the quarters.
Moneke would have potentially matched up with Lucaks the 4th seed in the round of 16.
Very favorable draw now for these two Buckeyes. :osu:

 Yeah, Michael is a great player. Moved to Orlando from New Zealand and trained with my coach and I for a couple years before moving to Texas.

I bet you Bryan would have liked to get another crack at him. Alex Clayton is pretty damn good so Bryan better come to play tomorrow.

Koniecko, the two-time Big Ten Athlete of the Year (?07 and ?08), defeated SEC Freshman of the Year Carlos Cueto of Florida in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. ?It was good,? Koniecko said. ?I had to forget about yesterday. I just told myself I had to stay positive and things would go a little bit better for me. First of all, it?s (the turnaround) not easy on the body and obviously mentally too. The season is over for the team, so you have to focus on yourself for a little bit for the one week you are here and play your own game.?

No. 9 Moneke, who was named to the 2009 Men?s NCAA Tennis Championship All-Tournament Team at No. 2 singles, downed sophomore and 2009 ITA National Rookie of the Year Bradley Klahn of Stanford in straight sets 7-6, 7-6. Moneke is now 41-4 and 19-2 overall in NCAA play.

No. 25 Kronauge was upset 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Kronauge, who finishes his singles season 41-8 for the second-consecutive year, has compiled 111 victories in three seasons with the Buckeyes and is sixth on the all-time career singles wins list.

Koniecko and Moneke will now prepare for the second round of the championships Thursday in College Station. Koniecko will take on No. 21-ranked Alex Clayton of Stanford at 2:30 p.m. ET, while Moneke hits the court against 18th-ranked Enrique Olivares of East Tennessee State at 2 p.m. ET.

Props to the entire tennis team and especially the 3 guys who played individual singles and doubles matches after playing in team competition. That has to be fairly grueling, to say the least, in College Station Texas.

Re: recruiting over the next few years wouldn't Chase have some contacts with some of the better international players who he might have faced on the junior circuit. I can remember the first time I saw his name was when he beat the #1 ranked junior in the world down in Miami. The kid was from Columbia.
