Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 19 Straight B1G Titles)

Good news on the ITA front. Looks as if the Buckeyes have secured a #3 seed into the NCAA team tournament.
The tOSU victory in the Big Ten coupled with Georgia's loss to Tennessee in the semifinals of the SEC tournament, prevented Georgia from rising to the #3.
Undefeated Virginia is finished for the regular season and will be the undisputed top seed entering the tournament.
ITA #2 ranked Mississippi won the SEC and will likely retain the #2 seed when regional qualifiers begin next week.
Have to like how this bracketology will look with tOSU avoiding the UVa in the lower half of the draw.
The official announcement from the NCAA will come with a selection show on ESPNnews tomorrow at 5:20 pm.

Thank you mods for adding the (Four-time Big Ten champs) to the title.
What a great day to be a fan of tOSU tennis team!

The latest ITA rankings were released, tOSU is in a solid 3rd position entering the Regional tournaments for the NCAA's.

The selection show for the draw of the NCAA tournament will be viewed by the team and media at the team room in the OSU varsity indoor facility this afternoon.

NCAA Bracket for the ITA team tournament is now listed on line.

Regional rounds will be hosted by tOSU on May 8-9.
Buckeyes are seeded third in the 64 team draw. The matchups obviously favor the seeded teams.
First round is Friday vs. Xavier, winner plays Saturday's match against the winner of TSUN and Notre Dame.
Buckeyes had an easy win over Xavier this year.
They beat ND easily once and TSUN twice.
It still would be wonderful to see a strong fan turnout for the regional tournament at the Stickney center (next to the WHAC) or in case of rain at the OSU Varsity Indoor tennis complex (Henderson Rd.)

Don't want to seem overconfident but the Buckeyes will not face the really tough competition until they head out to Texas A&M, where they could potentially face #14 Alabama in the round of 16.

winner of :2004:TSUN and:2004: Notre Dame
I don't particularly care which one of these two we would play since I have a strong distaste for both of them but it would be nice to beat :pissed:TSUN three times in one season.

Tonight at 6 pm, the Rig Ten Network will replay the Big Ten tennis tournament finals match between Illinois and tOSU.
Don't want to give away the winner, but Buckeye fans might be well-represented spectators.
Might also be interesting to check out the quality of the BTN court coverage, camera work and give some feed back on the commentary.

One interesting note. I was watching the #6 match against Illinois and we have a new Freshmen who stepped on campus a few weeks ago. He won his match convincingly. We did not have him in our only loss. He is an upgrade in talent that could take us over the top. His last name was Buchanan. I hope this frosh makes a name for himself in the NCAA'S.

Yes he is a huge addition to an already strong lineup. He played #2 and #3 singles earlier but finally settled in at #6. He is almost an automatic win at #6. Also plays doubles with Matt Allare.
Chase Buchanan was the no. 1 recruit for 2009 H. S. seniors according to most recruiting gurus.
He was ranked #4 in the world for juniors (under 18 years old), and enrolled at tOSU in March for the Spring quarter.
While many High School players competed in local and regional tournamnents, Chase was competing on the international circuit.
Have to believe he will be pretty special if he stays all four years at tOSU.

You may need to register to see his bio on this site, but pretty certain he will help this year at the NCAA's and in the future after Brian and Steven graduate.

Thanks for the info Gracelhink!!! He dominated his senior opponent from Illinois.

How much does he improve our chances of winning the NC? IMO we would have beat Illinois 6-1 because they won the doubles. Ty looked very very calm when talking and definately looked confident. I hope we win the NC.

Buchanan at #6 is a solid victory, but Shuhei was no slouch either.

Koniecko and Moneke have a combined dual match record of 48-4, while Kronauge is 23-4 in dual action.
Uzawa, a native of Chiba, Japan, has been impressive in his second season for the Buckeyes with a 25-6 overall record and 12-1 mark at No. 6 singles. The sophomore has surpassed his freshman record of 21 triumphs this year, while his classmate Novak hit the 30-win mark for the first time in his career. Novak is currently on an 18-match win streak.
Allare, who has won 25-consecutive matches in the 2009 spring season, is 28-2 overall and has earned four wins more as a sophomore than he did a season ago.

Novak was upset against TSUN in the B10 tourney, but Allare and Buchanan added 3 more victories to thier consecutive win list.
The depth of the team has been a huge asset for the Buckeyes, if one of the top 3 has a bad day, #4, 5, and 6, are reliable W's.
tOSU's only loss came at the hands of Tennessee in the ITA indoor tourney. IMHO Buchanan in the line up vs. UT might have been the difference between a W and a L.

Information about the upcoming regional qualifier for the ITA tennis tournament is found online. Matches will be held at the Stickney Tennis Center (next to the WHAC) with ample parking near the buildings.
No information is given about change of venue in case of rain.
