Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

Article about the upcoming single's and doubles championship

tOSU OFFICIAL TENNIS SITE

With the team portion of the NCAA men's tennis championships coming to a close, a trio of Buckeyes are preparing for NCAA individual competition at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. Senior Justin Kronauge, sophomore Chase Buchanan and freshman Dino Marcan will vie for singles or doubles titles starting Wednesday.
Kronauge and Buchanan will compete in the singles championship, while Buchanan will pair with Marcan in the doubles bracket. Match times are to be determined.
In a field of 64, Kronauge (35-3) a co-captain from Dayton, Ohio, will face Vahid Mirzadeh from Florida State. This will be the first meeting between Kronauge and Mirzadeh. After taking over the program's top spot in combined (274) and doubles (128) wins earlier in the season, Kronauge will attempt to move into sole possession of first place in career singles victories at Ohio State against Mirzadeh. Kronauge currently has 146 singles wins. The 2010 Midwest Region Farnsworth/ITA Senior Player of the Year, Kronauge currently is riding a 24-match win streak in singles.
On the opposite side of the bracket as the No. 7 seed, Buchanan also will face a Seminole in Jean-Yves Aubone. The Buckeye from New Albany, Ohio, enters his first-career match against Aubone with a 29-5 record. The 2010 Big Ten Player of the Year, Buchanan was named the Midwest Region's Player to Watch.
In between singles matches, Buchanan will join Marcan, a Rijeka, Croatia, native, on the courts and the duo will open action against Auburn's Tim Puetz and Alexander Stamchev among a field of 32. Ranked No. 9 in the country, Buchanan and Marcan are 20-3 overall and 11-2 vs. nationally-ranked opponents. Since defeating ninth-ranked duo Austin Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo of Texas A&M in March, Buchanan and Marcan have entered the ITA rankings at No. 43 and have climbed 34 spots to No. 9.

About the recruits coming next year. . . .
Nelson Vick is a class of 2010 blue chip recruit (think 5 star top 25 football recruit). He graduated early and joined the team at Spring quarter.
.
I see where King is the top-rated player in Wisconsin while the kid from Ohio that I mentioned, Metka , is only the fifth rated senior in Ohio but destroyed the kid who is ranked #3 in the District finals. The tennis recruiting network ranking are somewhat off IMO since I have had the pleasure of seeing some of these kids play or at least have had a very good "source" who has seen them play.

NCAA now has a PDF online showing the draws for the singles tourney.

I like the possibilities for Chase Buchanan. It looks like the most favorable section of the draw. With some sharp consistent play Buchanan could make it to the semis or finals. #2 seed Smith of Tennessee has been vulnerable recently.
Unfortunately Kronauge runs into some very strong players in the 2nd and 3rd round.

Also a link to the NCAA doubles draw.
Marcan and Buchanan have the #7 seeding and will match up favorably in their section. Smith and Sandgren from Tennessee are waiting in the quarters but they are beatable.
Go Bucks!

Tennessee won the doubles point against USC. It's on ESPNU now.

Out of spite, I'm rooting for the Vols - I'm gonna need an extra shower later tonight.

USC over Tennessee 4-2 in the NCAA Final.

Daniel Nguyen didn't want to part with the national championship trophy, coddling it like a baby on his way to do post-match interviews.

"I think I'm going to sleep with it tonight," he joked. "No, but it's definitely great to hold this trophy."
It should be. Nguyen did his part, clinching Southern California's second consecutive Division I men's tennis national title at No. 4 singles as the Trojans defeated Tennessee, 4-2, on Tuesday night at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Trojans defeated Ohio State 4-1 last year in College Station, Texas, adding to their titles from 1991, '93, '94 and '02.

Buckeyes will begin their individual action today.
Chase Buchanan is scheduled to start at noon.
Justin Kronauge's match is scheduled for 5 pm.
No start time is given for Buchanan and Marcan's doubles match.
