When the Spring 2020 schedule was posted, I noted this early February run of matches,
"this will be THE test for a young Buckeye squad. If they can salvage a 2-2 split or possibly a 3-1 record, it would offer something for the team to build on."
Bucks will host FOUR elite tennis powers over the next two weeks; #25 Arizona State (2/7), #3 USC (2/9), and #9 Texas A&M (2/11).
The best comes first, because this Saturday (2/1) at noon, #1 ranked and defending champion Texas Longhorns invade the Varsity Tennis Center.
It would be amazing to see a crowd of a thousand come out, make some noise and support the young team.

The official site has a preview of Saturday’s collision with #1 ranked Texas.
I didn't realize the record for men's tennis was 757 attendance ... would love to see that number eclipsed this Saturday, in the Varsity Tennis Center.

This week’s matches, Saturday, Feb. 1 vs. No. 1 Texas at Noon at the VTC
Noting this week
  • The Buckeyes are set to host No. 1 Texas this Saturday in what’s possibly the biggest match in Columbus in the last five years.
  • Ohio State is a remarkable 287-1 at home since April of 2003. The loss that preceded the streak came against No. 1 Illinois. The only loss during the streak came against No. 1 Oklahoma on March 6, 2015. This will be just the third time since 2003 that the Buckeyes have hosted a No. 1 team in Columbus.
  • The all-time series between Texas and Ohio State is tied up at 8-8. The Longhorns won the first five matches in the series but since 2011, the Buckeyes are 8-3.
  • Last year, Texas won 4-1 in Austin but were without the services of the country’s top player in JJ Wolf as he was participating in a professional event.
  • The Longhorns are 4-0 with a win at then No. 1 Florida to start the season and a win over No. 21 Florida State last Sunday in the finals of their ITA Kickoff Weekend.
  • Just a big huge match this Saturday. The VTC attendance record is 757 which was set in the previously mentioned match vs. No. 1 Oklahoma in 2015. In the final season of tennis at the VTC, it would be nice to break that mark this Saturday.
  • The Buckeyes check in at No. 4 in the first USTA Poll of the season while they remain sixth in the Oracle/ITA Rankings. Texas is No. 1 in both rankings.

For whatever reason that link didn't work, maybe it is temporarily down.

Apparently Texas only has 3 ranked guys (last match vs FSU):

#1 Texas 4, #21 Florida State 0
Singles competition
1. #2 Yuya Ito (UT) vs. Alex Knaff (FS) 6-7 (3-7), 1-4, unfinished
2. #13 Christian Sigsgaard (UT) vs. Juan Martin Jalif (FS) 6-3, 5-4, unfinished
3. #53 Siem Woldeab (UT) def. Sebastian Arcila (FS) 6-3, 6-3
4. Eliot Spizzirri (UT) def. Marcus Walters (FS) 6-1, 6-4
5. Chih Chi Huang (UT) def. Loris Pourroy (FS) 6-4, 6-2
6. Cleeve Harper (UT) vs. #92 Rana Roop Bhullar (FS) 3-6, 4-3, unfinished
Doubles competition
1. #4 Christian Sigsgaard/Yuya Ito (UT) def. Alex Knaff/Sebastian Arcila (FS) 6-1
2. Eliot Spizzirri/Jacob Bullard (UT) vs. Loris Pourroy/Juan Martin Jalif (FS) 4-3, unfinished
3. Chih Chi Huang/Cleeve Harper (UT) def. Marcus Walters/Chase Wood (FS) 6-1

#6 Ohio State 4, Tulsa 0
Singles competition
1. #24 John McNally (OSU) def. #98 Kody Pearson (TULSA) 6-2, 6-1
2. #16 Cannon Kingsley (OSU) def. Jarod Hing (TULSA) 6-0, 6-3
3. Justin Boulais (OSU) vs. Stefan Hampe (TULSA) 6-4, 2-1, unfinished
4. #28 Kyle Seelig (OSU) def. Juan Pablo Cenoz (TULSA) 6-0, 6-1
5. Robert Cash (OSU) vs. Ezequiel Santalla (TULSA) 6-4, 2-2, unfinished
6. #40 James Trotter (OSU) vs. Boriss Kamdem (TULSA) 6-2, 3-4, unfinished
Doubles competition
1. #2 John McNally/Robert Cash (OSU) def. Jarod Hing/Tom Thelwall-Jones (TULSA) 6-1
2. James Trotter/Andrew Lutschaunig (OSU) vs. Connor Di Marco/Kody Pearson (TULSA) 3-3, unfinished
3. Cannon Kingsley/Justin Boulais (OSU) def. Boriss Kamdem/Daniel Siddall (TULSA) 6-0

I'll go out on a limb here and say besides winning the doubles point, the "key" match-up could be #13 Christian Sigsgaard (UT) vs #16 Cannon Kingsley (OSU). If Kingsley can win the match we'll have a real good shot of beating Texas.

Thanks for the catch on the link failure Script....
The link to official site has some unusual characters which don’t copy and paste.
Re. Texas vs. tOSU comparison gauging player strength. Here is Universal Tennis Ranking for comparison
http://collegetennisranks.com/rankings/team/383168/d1m

Ohio State Projected Lineup, UTR = 82.03
1. John McNally........... 14.25
2. Cannon Kingsley......14.01
3. Justin Boulais..........13.81
4. Kyle Seelig..............13.77
5. James Trotter...........13.4
6. Robert Cash.............12.79
Tim Siebert..................12.97

Texas Projected Lineup, UTR = 81.41
1. Yuya Ito...................14.49
2. Christian Sigsgaard.....14.14
3. Siem Woldeab............13.5
4. Eliot Spizzirri.............13.43
5. Chih Chi Huang..........12.99
6. Cleve Harper.............12.96
Jacob Bullard.................12.82
So just by the numbers,
Advantage Texas at 1, 2 and 5 (Cash)
Advantage Bucks at 3, 4, and 6 (Trotter)
Doubles point will be critical.
