COLUMBUS, Ohio- The No. 5 Ohio State men’s tennis team claimed two wins Sunday at the Varsity Indoor Tennis Center, including director of tennis and head coach Ty Tucker’s 400th of his career at Ohio State. The Buckeyes (5-0) defeated No. 48 Louisville, 4-1, in the championship match of the 2014 ITA Kick-Off before posting a 4-0 shutout against Toledo in the nightcap.

With the win over the Cardinals, Ohio State advances to the ITA National Team Indoor, to be hosted by Texas A&M University Feb. 14-17 in Houston. The victory over the Rockets marked the 400th of Tucker’s career, while the Scarlet and Gray extended their home win streak to 177-consecutive matches. The nine-time Big Ten Coach of the Year is now 400-61 at Ohio State.

“I was pleased with our effort today and I thought we did a good job against a tough Louisville team,” Tucker said. “We had several guys that have not really been battle tested and it’s nice to start the year 5-0. You will win some tennis matches when you have talented players and assistant coaches. It’s great to be at a place like Ohio State that has the resources to play big time college tennis....”

Class guy is that Tucker fellow, credits his success to his assistant coaches and talented players...

Buckeyes will host two teams today, YSU at 3 pm and Wright State at 7.
Extending the 177 straight home win streak seems like a given but matches are now using new ITA rules, including...
doubles matches are to 6 games, tie breaker at 5-5, no ad scoring.
singles matches also play no ad and tie-breakers played at 5-5.
Seems like an easier opportunity for an upset, advantage underdog.
A preview of the doubleheader is on the official site.
Preview of YSU, WSU.

...The No. 5 Ohio State men’s tennis team will continue its 2014 season with a doubleheader against Youngstown State and Wright State on Tuesday at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Buckeyes (5-0) will play the Penguins at 3 p.m. and the Raiders at 7 p.m. Admission for both matches is free.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Penguins (1-2) placed fifth at the Horizon League Championships, finishing their season for the most wins the program had seen in over twenty years. Ohio State holds a 3-0 record against the Penguins, which includes a 7-0 victory for the Buckeyes last year. The Raiders (2-0) lost in the semifinals of the Horizon League Championships and finished with a 13-13 record. The Buckeyes lead their all-time series 8-0, with Ohio State claiming their last meeting at home last year, 4-0....
