Ohio State men's soccer coach John Bluem has spent more than a decade building the Buckeyes into a consistent top-25 program.

There are still times, though, when he has to start from scratch, particularly when recruiting.
" 'You have soccer at Ohio State?' We still here that when we call some of the top recruits around the country," Bluem said. "They know about Ohio State, but didn't know we had a soccer program."
Ohio State (15-3-5) has erased a lot of the anonymity with its run in the NCAA Tournament. The fifth-seeded Buckeyes could eliminate it altogether today with a win over unseeded Bradley (16-5-4) in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium and a first-ever spot in the College Cup -- soccer's version of the Final Four.

It was a great game. Tied at half, Bradley came out and really controlled the first 10 minutes of the second half, and then we got a PK goal and Bradley seemed to unravel. Great game by Casey and overall, just a solid effort. Good luck against UMass Friday.

Bradley had a lot of fans there, and I swear one was rabid. He was foaming at the mouth and kept turning and cussing at the OSU fans, despite the fact that there was a 3 and 7 year old kid in the front row. Some parent of another 11 year old told him to sit down or he would kick the shit out of him, and he left.

Ohio State's first goal brought a sigh of relief. The second one set off a celebration, and by the time the fourth goal hit the back of the net, the Buckeyes knew they were headed to their first Men's College Cup.
The wide range of emotions occurred during a 12-minute span of the second half in Ohio State's NCAA quarterfinal against Bradley yesterday. The Buckeyes broke open a scoreless tie with four goals and beat the visiting Braves 4-0 before 1,705 in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The victory extended Ohio State's record 14-game unbeaten streak and puts the Buckeyes (16-3-5) in a national semifinal against Massachusetts (17-7-1) at 7 p.m. Friday in Cary, N.C. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

Congrats to the men's soccer team on making it to the Final Four.

As the previous article says, their semifinal game will be on ESPNU this Friday at 7 pm Eastern.

Buckeyes take matters into own hands this year

The Ohio State men's soccer team has played with a chip on its shoulder this season after being left out of last season's NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes, especially the seniors, vowed they wouldn't be slighted this year.

Yet an 0-2-1 stretch in late September left the Buckeyes at 5-3-2 and on the NCAA bubble if they didn't win the Big Ten tournament.
Coach John Bluem tried to change the team's mind-set and told them the postseason began then.
"Our players really developed the knockout mentality where this game is your last game," he said. "In the regular season, that's not true. But if your team trains that way and plays that way, then they start to believe that's true."

COLUMBUS ? Players on Ohio State's men's soccer team vowed at the end of last season that they wouldn't get slighted again by being left out of the NCAA tournament.
Not only were the Buckeyes invited this year, but they've won three matches and are playing in the national semifinals, their first appearance in the College Cup. Sunday's 4-0 win over Bradley extended OSU's unbeaten streak to 14 games and puts the Buckeyes into the semis against Massachusetts, which is unbeaten in its last seven games.
