Ohio State men’s soccer is looking to do something this weekend that it’s never done before, but the Buckeyes don’t feel like they need to do anything different than what they’ve done all season.
The Buckeyes are set to make their second-ever appearance in the NCAA College Cup as they face Marshall in the national semifinals on Friday night (approximately 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU). If the top-seeded Buckeyes defeat the 13th-seeded Thundering Herd, they’ll advance to Monday night’s national championship game (8 p.m., ESPN2) to face the winner of Friday’s first semifinal between No. 3 seed Denver and unseeded Vermont.
Should Ohio State win two games in Cary, North Carolina, the Buckeyes would return to Columbus as national champions for the first time in program history. Ohio State lost to Wake Forest in the national championship game in its only previous College Cup appearance in 2007.
For the current crop of Buckeyes who had never made it past the second round of the NCAA Tournament, just getting to this point is a dream come true. But they don’t want to come home emptyhanded.
“I've always wanted to play in Cary. It's always been a dream to play in Cary. You want to be playing at this time of the year, so I think all of us are excited to go play and hopefully win it,” junior midfielder Luciano Pechota said Wednesday.

Did I see it correctly that Vermont beat Denver?
Yes, Vermont tied it in the 84th minute, then after 2 OTs, won the PK Shootout 4-3. The Catamounts didn’t miss any PKs, and Denver‘s third kick was almost up the middle and saved, and their 5th attempt hit the crossbar and went over. And once it went over it was over.

Early in the second half, Vermont was very lucky that they weren’t called for a handball on a corner kick that was heading to a dangerous spot. The defender had his back to the ball and his extended arm hit the ball as it was dropping near the 6. No call, and the ref could have asked for a review but he didn’t.

I was hoping for Vermont to win, they got completely dominated in the first 10 minutes and Denver had a header go off the crossbar. But they played better after that, but Denver dominated in the midfield, Vermont is a very tall team, I think everybody is at least 6’ 1”.

Buckeyes are on ESPNU now. Just put one off the crossbar on a corner.

And seconds later Marshall scored on a counter-attack. A assist from the keeper to the top of the other box. Crap 0-1.

The difference in the game was in the 7th minute. Off a header, Ajagbe hit the crossbar, 3 inches lower and it’s a goal. The ball goes out for a goal kick right after that, and the Marshall keeper sent it to the top of the other box, where a guy beat the center D and the keeper for a dribble-in goal.
