I call bullshit! Both Wisconsin and State Penn have awful fans. Remember when Herbie got hit with a tomato at Camp Randall Stadium?

if we're talking students and alumni, i find it hard to believe that there are much worse fans in the big ten than PSU and wisconsin fans. PSU students threw urine at our band, wisconsin students have been known to throw rocks and batteries, and hell, if you remember, there was no band present for the home team last time we were at camp randall because of shenanigans.

but unfortunately it seems like a lot of the "t-shirt" alumni we have are terrible, and i've talked about this before, but thank God hineygate is gone. i'd like to see more actual tailgating around the stadium than just drunken middle aged dudes staggering around and looking for their next beer. if i wanted that kind of atmosphere i would've just gone to bengals games every sunday during college and saved myself some money.

In fairness to the poll, Ohio State would almost certainly have the rudest fans at home games by percentage, given OSU has home stadiums in Columbus, Bloomington, and now Ann Arbor. It's a numbers thing really. All of OSU's home stadiums combined this season hold around 300,000 Buckeye fans.

:tongue2:

does 33 count as middle age? If so I am offended by this comment. Otherwise I am just a cool younger guy staggering around looking for my next beer.

This doesn't bother me at all. With such a big campus in such a big city, you will have this. Plus, I just feel our fans are so much more passionate than any other school in the Big Ten. I wouldn't change that. We live, breathe, and die Buckeye football. So when somebody else comes to our house, we get defensive. It's how it is. Opposing fans should feel unwelcome. We don't want them in our city or in our stadium. We just went into Michigan Stadium and owned it as fans. We were loud, we turned the stands scarlet. It was embarrassing for Michigan. That would not happen in The Shoe. Our fans are too crazy and too passionate to let that happen. If you don't like Buckeye fans, then don't come to Columbus.

But I also think the numbers are a little skewed because we are so good. The reason I say that is because there is no way Michigan has the 2nd rudest fans. I've been to games everywhere in the Big Ten. Penn State, Wisconsin, and Purdue are far worse. Michigan fans are along the lines of Illinois or Iowa as far as being rude.

Earlier this season I saw on online article saying that pretty much every top 10 team had the worst fans. Florida, Ohio State, Texas, USC and so on.

Vandy has the nicest fans in the SEC poll....go figure.

It lines up perfectly with strength and success. The more you have, the more people resent you. And, I am sure, the cockier and more obnoxious the fanbase becomes. But it is our opponents' resentment at our success that is at the core of that dislike, and nothing can be done about that. Spurrier used to say, "If they ain't hatin' ya, you aren't winning enough."

Ticketing some 60 year old alum in a private tailgate for having an open beer did nothing to address the real issue.
I agree. Unfortunately, before the Iowa game I saw two 60-year-old alums ticketed for having open beer. These guys were the last people in Columbus an Iowa fan would expect to have a problem with.

The beer police are alive and well at French Fieldhouse, and they accomplish nothing worthwhile.
