Ohio State/Big Ten Preview and Recruiting Analysis

if osu can get anyone to get in the mix down low outside of dials they will do better than fifth in the conference.

if mayes and lewis play to expectations, regardless of no other improvements down low, osu will be a better team.

8-8 should be a bottom end goal overall.

Bowling Green transfer Ron Lewis was a 17 point per game scorer in the MAC, and has done nothing but impress during his redshirt season. Right now, it's pretty safe to pencil him in as an opening night starter at the wing.

Wow. Those are pretty strong words there! If he's right on his predicted starters, we have some pretty unreal depth at PF, SG, and SF

And the best has yet to come...

It's been overused recently (for good reason), but damn it feels good to be a Buckeye right now!!

If all this wasn't quite enough for you, Matta has locked in one of the top wings in the class of 2007 in John Diebler, 2008's top C, BJ Raymond, and one of the the 2008's top SG's in Walter Offutt.

hahaha oops! The one mistake he made in the whole article.

Buckeyes are picked to finish 5th in the conference after Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.
I don't think this is a bad prediction, I just think it is erroneous. Illinois has a lot to prove before they deserve to be going above us, let alone 2nd. Anyone see what happened when they had to go to the bench players? It wasn't pretty. I'd put us 2nd-4th. Dials is a lock for all big ten. He got snubbed last year.

my feeling was that the author placed us 5th primarily due to the question marks of mayes, lewis, and harris. mayes is unproven at this level, lewis is unproven against osu's level of competition, and harris is just unproven with his supposed talent. each of these players could have semi-monstrous seasons, which would raise osu's stock very quickly. the author's placement of osu is severely cautious, and i don't think that he would deny that. this statement is indicative of the author's overall sentiment:

"However, after separating the future from the present, this team has a solid, if not quite spectacular feel."

"if not quite spectacular"? 5th in the big ten? i'd say that our upside is tremendous.

anyone else enjoy osu's basketball seasons more than the football seasons? don't get me wrong... i love osu football and get all geeked-out during the season. but, i don't get punched in the stomach during the basketball season as i do during the football season. perhaps it has solely to do with a loss not having the impact that it has during the football season, except for the tournament. then again, perhaps it's because the expectations are not hearly as high. i'm certain that the latter is the case. osu's most previous run to the final four was just fun. osu's run to the football national championship gave me ulcers. lol.

Fifth works for me. Low enough to still be a 'surprise' team but high enough to set expectations.

No argument with MSU - not with Izzo. I also think Illinois has a legit claim on a top 2 spot. They lost a lot but they are loaded with talent and have a nice core with Brown to work around.

If Mayes and Lewis are 'all that' I see us in a dog fight for the #3 spot with some other very good teams. One loss can take you from third to fifth so that is fair.

We are stll a team with a major weakness. Dials is our only proven muscle player. Terwilliger's development is crucial as is Harris emergence.

If we finish in the top two I nominate Matta for coach of the year.
