Game Thread Ohio State at Wisconsin, 10/15/16, 8:00pm ET ABC/WatchESPN

Just sayin': Maybe not the play of the game; but one hell of a play:

I think I post this after every overtime win. With the exception of the Iowa game in maybe 2009, all of Ohio State's overtime games have ended with Ohio State's defense on the field. (Note that I'm considering field goal kicking as offense and field goal defending as defense. If you don't like it, go smell a nut.)

2002 Illinois - First overtime, Ohio State scores a touchdown, and stops Illinois from scoring on their possession.
2002 Miami - Double overtime, goal line stand to win.
2003 NC State - Triple overtime, stop the ball carrier on fourth down just outside the endzone.
2003 Purdue - Purdue misses a field goal that would have sent it into second overtime.
2004 Northwestern - Ohio State fails to score in first overtime. Northwestern scores a touchdown.
2009 Iowa - Iowa can't score in their possession. Ohio State makes a field goal to win.
2011 Purdue - I can't remember if Ohio State scored in their possession. But Purdue scored a touchdown in theirs to win.
2012 Purdue - Ohio State scored a touchdown, and stopped Purdue from scoring.
2012 Wisconsin - Ohio State scored a touchdown, and stopped Wisconsin from getting a touchdown.
2014 Penn State - Double overtime, Ohio State scores, Bosa doesn't let Penn State score
2016 Wisconsin - Ohio State scored a touchdown, and stopped Wisconsin from getting a touchdown.

Overall record 9-2.

I stayed away from the thread tonight because the long pre-game in combination with how I thought the game would go could turn into a week vacation...

That said, good on them for this win. The 14-year old got frustrated early and had to step away from the TV as I'm sure many of us wanted to. I can only say this, and I think that this is something unique to to the Urban era, I never doubted the outcome. There were clearly a number of times that I was frustrated with the number of, and timing of explosive plays from Wisky... but I really never doubted.

The first half was shit. No doubt about that. And I've said it countless times about myself and anyone who coaches... half time adjustments is where coaches make their money. Congrats to the coaches for earning their keep tonight.

For as frustrating as things may have felt tonight at times, it's a damn good feeling to have a complete sense of calm that the coaching staff would adjust and the payers would respond. In some ways I'll call this win one of the most satisfying wins I've sat through in a long time. Sure, 59-0 is a lot of fun. And any of us who were there that night can tell you how much more fun it was in person... but to see a team fight the way they did leaves me with far greater confidence in this team as the season goes on. It was great to see them, and such a young team still, reach deep and do what they needed to do to get it done.

Congrats to this team. From the coaches down to the scout team, they earned this one tonight.

Good night Buckeye Nation. Rest well. Your team is in very good hands.
