Game Thread Ohio State at Oklahoma, 09/17/16 @ 9:00pm ET, FOX

If I am an OU fan I want to see solid ground game and high TOP.

That's what worries me anyhow. It's not OU's style per se but I'd sure look at how MSU has played us as a blueprint and they had success against a more talented D Line that OSU has in 2016. I'd be looking to establish the inside run. Maybe Lincoln Riley learned his lesson from the Houston game?

That is what I keep coming back to as the key to the game.

I think OU can run on the OSU DL. It's just a question of their commitment to it.

Seeing as they already had their big loss due to inexplicably abandoning the run it seems logical to expect they won't make the same mistake twice.

Flip side of it is if JT Barrett can pass well enough to move the OSU offense. If he can then Ou might not be able to run as much as they would like.

A zebra can't change its stripes. I remember his name thrown around when Ohio State was in need of an OC, and it was generally assumed his style did not fit with the power run game Meyer wants. Riley is Air Raid all the way.

Honestly, reading the UO boards all week, their fans are actually fearing the run game. They want the Sooners to pound to rock because of what you said.

Much of the defensive talk has been about our secondary, and rightfully so. That said I'm not sure that running the ball inside is something they want to do. Little talk has been made of Quan, McMillian, and Hubbard because they have been doing their job and doing it very well.

Bowling Green used 4 rushers with 26 attempts and still came up well short of 100 yards for the game. Tulsa used 3 rushers (minus QB sacks) with 33 attempts and also came up well short of 100 yards for the game - and that was after being forced to run due to INTs and bad weather.

Oklahoma used 4 players on 26 attempts and yielded only 70 yards the entire game against Houston. Thirteen of those attempts was from Mayfield. Against their FCS opponent the box score looked much better for UO with 288 rush yards. Breaking that down though we see that they had to use SIX rushers, half of which had over 10 attempts each (10,14,18 attempts) and the 6 rushes utilized 46 attempts.

That tells me that they want to tote the rock, but struggle to do so against big time opponents (67 yards on 33 attempts vs Clemson, 67 yards on 37 attempts vs Texas). They HAVE to run and run well to win (likely need over 150 yards) but you aren't going to do so against this Buckeye defense.

UO has a false sense of security on their offensive abilities because of the lack of defense played in the Big 12.

They lost the 2014 bowl against Clemson, then went into 2015 barely beating Tennessee (needed Mayfield to rush 14 times), lost to Texas, lost to Clemson again, then started the year with a loss to Houston.

Their conference lack of top defensive play doesn't help prep them for out of conference games.

Only question I have about this picture is... he get flagged for being on the field or???

To our Sooner fan... you've been cool. Hopefully either way you stick around. After all we play next year too. I've basically (as had the community) said you were wrong everytime you said something but you've handled it well.

Whoever does better running the ball I feel will go a long way to deciding this game. We need to stop their run game IMO. Can't win without holding them under 200.
