Game Thread Ohio State at Michigan State, 11/19/16, 12p ET ESPN/WatchESPN

Ill give you the misdirection - Sparty used it all day - and the counter - Sparty used this effectively too, but the Buck's jet sweep has been a disaster this whole season.
We never ran to the edge one time today. Samuel could have had first downs easily multiple times going to the edge when he sprinted through and we handed off to Weber. The jet sweep has been effective at times, not what it used to be, but sometimes you just need 5-8 yds to keep a drive going right.

That's what I mean... after we had like what 50 yards at half time? Just stop what are you doing!

Absolutely no reason to throw the ball that last drive though when it went incomplete on first down. Some of the issues didn't look like wind though some of them straight up looked like misfires.

The WR dropped a few and JT missed on probably 4-5 that he just can't miss on. We need those next week.
At the end of the day, it is up to the coaches to put the players into position to be successful. When something isn't working, you need to stop and go to something else. It was clear JT was struggling throwing the ball, for whatever reason. As the OCs, you have to find something else. This is the issue that I have with Beck/Warriner and their inability/stubborness to change the script when something isn't working.

It was NEVER Mary & William, and it will NEVER GODDAMN BE Michigan vs. Ohio State!!:lift:

The OCs shit down their leg today, just like they did against MSU last year and Pedo State this year. We're lucky the D was able to hold onto the game this time. We had great field position for most of the game, save a couple of possessions and did absolutely squat with them. Sometimes you just have to line up and impose your will on a team like MSU. It would have been great to see a few more plays with JT under center like we saw last week and some sort of heavy package when we needed to bang a few yards. Yeah we don't have a FB anymore, but I'm sure we could use a TE to lead Webber through the hole off tackle.

Big step back this game in the common sense column for our OCs. However that's very much like them in big games when the weather is garbage.

4 carries... FOUR carries for the most complete player in America in Curtis. That does not happen and cannot happen going forward. I get it the weather sucked and throwing was going to be difficult but then we should've ran the ball in multiple ways with multiple players then.

Curtis on a sweep, QB power and Draw, Zone reads with just Mike or a Triple option. Run a toss, a jet sweep, a touch pass, a reverse, a fake reverse, or hell why not run that stupid option with a pitch man.

When the coaches watched a simple quick throw out wide to Samuel hook like Andrew fucking Miller threw a 0-2 curveball then maybe we just shouldn't throw the ball.

At least get JT back on track correctly. Once we get in 2nd and manageable then do a quick hitting slant or a quick screen out wide. Then if it gets shut down its 3rd and short and you do what you have to do to move then chains then you repeat until he's on track.

From my count JT missed 2 quick hitters out wide, Baugh dropped one, Brown dropped one, and I want to say Parris dropped one. Also barely missed Terry on that deep shot and JT misfired over the middle at least once to a wide open Campbell.

Overall the more I think of this game and look at how we AGAIN neglected curtis... They didn't force us to be predictable with their scheme/weather we just chose to be predictable again. IMO we run the ball about 35-40 times a game divide those numbers by 3 and give each JT, Weber, and Samuel the same carries.

Can't key on any part of our run game if you don't know which of the 3 players will get the ball. Urban likes to point out that running the QB gives us a statistical advantage right? Well if we make people account for 3 players their odds greatly reduce to guessing right when we go to the JT/Mike show.

There is a hitch in his throwing motion. I noticed it several times today. He'd start to throw, then hesitate a split second before finishing the throw, which caused him to be late and off target.

When I think about the kid that threw for 300 against the No Fly Zone in 2014, and how he consistently completed beautiful down field passes, and then reflect on what I witnessed today, I don't even know what to think. Does he lack confidence in his receivers? In his arm? In the play that was called? Is he just being too careful?

I don't know what it is, but it's disheartening, and I don't like it.

I definitely went overboard. There were plenty of drops but he also missed some wide open guys.

Good thing is he played a great game on the groundand made crucial throws.

you're good, man. At this point we live or die with JT. I believe JT is not the problem with this offense. I sincerely hope Urbs reevaluates his offensive brain trust this offseason.

He simply isn't that player on a consistent basis. I too have watched and waited for JT to emerge and become that player from MSU 2014, but that isn't the "rule" with him but rather the exception. He has days or periods like that, but it isn't consistent and I no longer expect that of him. What he IS, is a warrior and perhaps the best QB at the mesh point I've ever seen and a tough dude with escapability. But accuracy isn't his strong suit and he doesn't have a rifle. I love the dude and he's the guy I want under center, but he isn't perfect.

The weather bit is a crutch the fans use. It wasn't the reason for our struggles. It is, sometimes, who we are. I suspect we will be something different next week.
