Ohio State 79 Iowa 48 (Final)

Just what the doctor ordered. Hopefully Butler will be ready to go full speed by the weekend.

Great game David Lighty! I asked for it and you delivered in a big way. Expect me to ask more often.

Same to Big O. Way to assert yourself tonight. We'll need more of that come tourney time.

Loved to see the bench guys getting more time. Depth is always a concern and they showed they could come in and make things happen.

Kudos to coach Matta for spreading the game around tonight.

Keep it up for Purdue.

Butler tonight...8 points 9 assists 0 TOs.

Butler in B10 play...40 points 26 assists 6 TOs.

That is solid PG play...6/15 from 3-point in B10 play isn't bad either.

Although I was working and didn't get to see the game it's a great win for the Buckeyes tonight. Getting off to a 3-0 start in the Big Ten is huge for a team this young. Hopefully they can carry this momentum for a while longer.

GO BUCKS!

Buckeyes' smothering defense, hot shooting squash Hawkeyes OSU off to 3-0 start in Big Ten as winning streak improves to eight games
By George M. Thomas
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Thursday, Jan 10, 2008
COLUMBUS: If Ohio State's football team had played Monday night like the basketball team did Wednesday night, there would be a national championship to celebrate.
Instead it was the OSU basketball team (12-3, 3-0) using tough defense to strangle Iowa (7-9, 0-3). The Buckeyes only needed half of their offense to dispense with Iowa on Wednesday night in Value City Arena.
In the process, OSU began the Big Ten Conference schedule 3-0 for the first time since 1991 and ran its winning streak to eight games while beating the Hawkeyes 79-48.

OHIO STATE MEN OHIO ST. 79IOWA 48

Buckeyes' defense

Thursday, January 10, 2008 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- Ohio State point guard Jamar Butler said he slept through the National Championship Game Monday night. His only point of reference for the football Buckeyes' 14-point loss to LSU was the second-quarter Beanie Wells stiffarm on the Tigers' Chevis Jackson.
That was a good thing. A year ago, Ohio State men's basketball followed the football loss to Florida with a 3-point defeat at Wisconsin the next night, in what turned out to be OSU's last loss in the regular season.
"Last year at this time, there was a black cloud floating over the city," OSU coach Thad Matta said, "and it actually got into our team. We couldn't let that happen."

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLUMBUS First-year Iowa Coach Todd Lickliter is feeling the pain of a rebuilding year, but he knows Ohio State could have made it more painful if Buckeyes Coach Thad Matta hadn?t put on the brakes.

Matta?s team led by as much as 35 points before his bench took over in the second half of a 79-48 victory over Iowa Wednesday night.

?It could have been as bad as they wanted to make it,? Lickliter said. ?It hurts. I?m a fairly competitive guy. This is my job and I want to do it well.?

OSU spreads the work
Buckeyes bury Hawkeyes early, giving starters a chance to rest
Thursday, January 10, 2008 12:05 AM
By Bob Baptist

The Columbus Dispatch
It was a good night for Jamar Butler to be getting over the flu.
It also was a good night for his teammates to get some rest, or to get some playing time, as the case may be.
Playing its third game in seven days, with games at Purdue, Michigan State and Tennessee looming in the next 10, Ohio State did not quibble about the pass it was given last night.
Disheveled from the outset at both ends of the court, rebuilding Iowa offered little resistance to Ohio State in its first visit to Value City Arena under coach Todd Lickliter, a former compatriot of Ohio State coach Thad Matta at Butler.
Four points ahead midway through the first half, the Buckeyes buried the Hawkeyes with a 27-3 run in the final 10:21 and coasted to a 79-48 victory, their eighth in a row.
David Lighty and Othello Hunter scored 14 points apiece, Butler had nine assists and four of the five starters sat the last 151/2 minutes.
