Ohio State 75, Florida 84 (final - NC Game)

I wonder at what point the talking heads on TV and the true fan bases of both schools will understand the magnitude of both schools playing in NC games in the same academic year in both sports. I think its understated. Granted it sucks to be on the wrong end of those games but holy shit. No UK, no Syracuse, no Duke and no UNC... Florida and Ohio State. tOSU's basketball program is on the up swing while Florida's (all props to them) has just peaked. I believe tOSU is building toward similar dominance in both sports......

WTF though, SEC fans bring a f'd up vibe to college athletics.

Thanks for all the congratulations, everyone. It's nice to see that you all aren't complaining and making excuses. OSU fans have really struck me as classy people. After the BCS Game, I heard almost no excuses, whining, stupid insults, etc from Ohio State fans. Only props. This game was the same way. With the exception of the stupid middle school (probably bandwagon) Ohio State fans going on our message boards saying "GAYTORZ SUK OMFG LOL" (and I know, we have our fair share of "fans" like that) all I have read and heard from your fans was respectful and classy. Hope to see you all in the next football and basketball championships!

Congratulations to the Gators. Last night they were the better team.

In summary, it was a great (football and basketball) sports year for Ohio State. It is definately better to play in the championship game and lose (with class) than to never have gotten to the game. There is no shame in finishing #2. Every other Division 1A program with a football and basketball team (except Florida) would gladly trade records with us for this past season. With the current coaches and recruits coming in, Ohio State should be contending for the National Championship in both football and basketball for years to come.

Still proud top be a Buckeye!!!

:oh: :io:

Walking to work this morning, I was thinking that these were possibly the best tOSU football and basketball teams I've ever seen in my 33 years (2002 won the Championship, but I think this team was more talented). Championships are tough and what Florida has accomplished is truly amazing. They have some very great young and classy coaches in Meyer and Donovan. We have witnessed the birth of a rivalry. Before the game, I thought another loss to the Gators would be tough to swallow, but watching how hard the boys played I could not be disappointed. Florida had their year, but I see the Buckeyes future very bright. I wouldn't trade Tressel or Matta for any pair of coaches on the planet. These may have been the best Buckeye teams I have seen, but I fully to expect even greater things in the future! It is a great time to be a Buckeye.

GO BUCKEYES!

hello buckeye fans!

just wanted to let you know i specifically registered to your site just to wish you a big congratulations. your team put up a great fight last night!!! you should be very proud of your guys - only one other team can say they got as far as they did... and that alone speaks volumes for your program.

oden is a MONSTER!!! dude can play some ball, for sure. he was destroying our big guys... rightfully so, as well - hope he comes back to play for you guys next year.

but you know what? some of the comments on here are really disturbing... some guy wanting to punch each florida player? really - what is that going to accomplish. its just a game. it only reflects badly upon you. let us enjoy this moment, we worked hard to get here and probably wont be this strong next year. and all the negative comments about noah - just let the kid be... he just gets really excited and all worked up. he doesnt mean any harm! sure he might not sound the brightest, but he is a good player and adds a dynamic to the team that really gets people going. maybe oden can teach him the poker face?

anyway, thanks for a great game - and hopefully we can meet again soon on the field or court again next season... until then...

GOOOOOO GATORS!!!!!!

Not entirely on topic, but here's the President of UF, Bernie Machen, in a recent interview with Dennis Dodd.

excerpt:
SPLN: That raises another question. What did you think of Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany's open letter comparing the Big Ten to the SEC?

Dr. M: It's ridiculous. What a homer. I was at Michigan (as provost and dean of the school of dentistry). I know how they get in at Michigan. Don't talk to me about the Nobel laureates at Michigan.

Just look at Greg Oden's class schedule this semester. The Big Ten has fought the conference playoff, then they (complain) because Ohio State doesn't have a game in 48 days. (Actually 51 between the last game of the season and the BCS title game. The Big Ten traditionally ends its regular-season football schedule before Thanksgiving).
Whose fault is that? What's happened is the world has moved, the Big Ten is no longer calling the shots.

SPLN: Does the rest of college athletics have a chance against Florida?

Dr. M: My fans here are telling me that the Ohio State thing has gotten ugly. They have us on their radar screen. They dislike us as much as they dislike Michigan.

Dodd claims that Machen was not shy about using expletives in the interview, oddly enough.

My comment on the above: it seems mildly shocking that the President of the University of Florida (or of any University) would give an interview in which he:

1) Specifically criticizes Michigan for the academic caliber of their student athletes. Being an OSU fan, I got a gratuitous chuckle from that. But still, is that called for?

2) Refer directly to a specific college student/athlete (Greg Oden), in a fairly clearly-implied unflattering manner.

3) Essentially call the BigTen a bunch of crybabies, over something that, to my knowledge, nobody affiliated with the BigTen made an issue of.

4) Use language that supposedly Dodd had to clean up in order to make his column "family friendly".

None of this particularly matters, obviously. But, while it would be standard issue if coming from some random fan or sports columnist, for it to be coming from a university president seems a bit bizarre.

Is there a link to this interview...seems like Machen would be up for sanction by Myles Brand...doubtful if the SEC would raise an eyebrow

I would expect nothing more from the president of a university in the South. Considering that this is their supposed leader and an academic, it's no wonder that the majority of UF fans behave like they do.
