Ohio State 69 Tennessee 74 (FINAL)

I am with Jax here...Just win one of these games I am not one for moral victories...

We have two guys play their best games as buckeyes and we still don't win...

Big props to Hunter and Turner...If Hunter plays like this at MSU we win by 10 pts...He played probably one of his worst games there, so it was great for him to come back off that performance to play great today...Turner finally looks like he has shed the shell and is attacking the rim and not looking timid out there...Now we just need to work on his TO's...

Butler I hate to say this, but his help was there today...I honestly hated his comments about needing help...He could of said something along the line of we are working on thigs as a team, and took the attention off him, because today while he did a great job of getting his teammates involved like I was saying, he struggled with the pressure and was 2-10 from the field...I know I am being hard on Butler here, but comments like those can lead to problems in the locker room...He is the leader of this team, and you don't want leaders making comments like that...Now I love Butler's game and think he will be back and leading us, but the help is there, we just have to play together...

Lighty continues to struggle, his outside jumper is going down like it was, he isn't getting to the lane and finishing as much as I think we need him too...

KK showed glimpses of what we know he can do...He got his game started with his inside soft touch with the hook shot, and then stepped outside...I keep saying it, but he needs to play in his range more often...He also was much more assertive and played with more energy in the second half than we have seen at any point all season it seemed...It seems that KK goes as his offensive game goes, and when he isnt getting shots, and especially when he is getting shots and they aren't falling it effects his entire game...

I really think one of the most disappointing things of the season besides KK's ups and downs is Diebler's jumper...We all know he can shoot it...He has such a sweet release, but they just won't fall, I think a lot of it is mental, but it is just a matter of time I truly believe...Once he gets hot I believe this team will be that much better...

With all the criticism I think the one thing that needs a ton of praise is the defense that we are playing...We slowed Tennessee down the length we have can shut these teams down, the only that we continue to struggle with is rebounding out of the zone, but I think it is getting better...But we truly are limiting teams with what they can do offensively and causing everyone to shoot worse than what they normally shoot, and causing turnovers...

I really don't know how this post is coming off as, but I think a lot of it has to do with just being upset with knowing the potential of this team...I understand we are young, and the teams we have lost to are good teams, and were all away from home other than UNC who is a very good team, but it just sucks, because all of us know that Jon Diebler is not the type of shooter that should be going 0-6 in games, Butler is not the type of shooter that goes 2-10 very often...Lighty hasn't reached the level of play he finished the season with last year...KK showed what he can do early in the second half and then we forget about him, and he doesn't get him self in position at times to make the plays...Also another thing that is upsetting is guys like Hill, Wallace, Lauderdale, aren't getting minutes to help out the guys and help them keep fresh legs...

With all that said that things that suck to watch are the same reasons why we have to keep the faith in this team...Things that we need to see for this team to take their game to the next level are things that we know the guys can do because we have seen them do them, we just need to become more consistent...I think a little of this is mental and we need a couple wins in a row, a couple shots in a row for guys to start fallin' and we will be at our best at the end of the season...

We finally get back to the Schott for our next game and lets hope that these guys take a look at this film, and don't let it ruin their season, but translate it into what we all know they are capable of...

One more thing we have lost to two teams ranked in the top 10 by a combined total of 11 points and both games were away from home...And if we do some little things we win both of them...

Evan Turner said:
"We had Jon Diebler open. He's one of the best 3-point shooters any of us have ever seen. He didn't hit, but he'll come back tomorrow and hit those nine times out of 10," Turner said.

Quote from Turner after the game...Not something like he needed more help...It was one that came from a young frosh and not one that is leading the team...Big props for Turner backing up his teammate because he knows just like all of us that it is just a matter of time before Diebs gets real hot and starts knocking them shots down on a consistent basis...

It is all about needing both of them to contribute and not just one of them...

Tennessee's Chris Lofton goes for a shot between Ohio State's Kosta Koufos, right, and P.J. Hill.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- It might be difficult to fathom how a three-game losing streak could be where the Ohio State men's basketball team turned its season for the better.
But it might have yesterday.
"We can be a very good team if we play that hard all the time," freshman Evan Turner said. "Some of our losses in the past wouldn't have (happened) if we played as hard as we did today."
The young Buckeyes found some heart and production to go with veteran point guard Jamar Butler in a 74-69 loss to No. 6 Tennessee in Thompson-Boling Arena. Not enough to avoid their third consecutive loss, but it was the most convincing evidence yet that they surely if slowly are closing the gap between the team they are and the team coach Thad Matta thinks they can be.
"You want to say you're proud of the guys, which I am," Matta said. "But we didn't get what we came for, which is the hard part."

Every time I have seen Turner and Diebler together I've seen a really good chemistry -- kind of surprising given that they are not from the same area, same AAU team, etc.

Frankly, I see this as being Evan Turner's team in the next 3 years (or as long as he chooses to stay).

I agree about the chemistry, and I really like when we go to the small lineup with Lighty, Butler, Turner, Diebler all at once...I would really like to see them go to that lineup with Lauderdale at the 4 and maybe try and play some man defense, because you would have a rebounder in there, and maybe force some turnovers...We could do the same thing with Hunter as well...Just something to mix it up and really give offenses trouble as our zone is already giving them lots of trouble...

But as for the second point, there is really too much talent coming in and Diebler will still be here, so I think it will be hard for anyone to have the the team known as their team...I do agree that Turner will be a very good player and one of the best players, but I don't see a situation in the coming years where we will have a situation like this year where we only have 1 returning starter, and the main guys in the lineup are made up of frosh and you can say that it is someones team...

I understand what you're saying, CB40, and as usual it's well-thought-out, but I see in Turner the kind of leadership that matters -- the kind that incorporates on-court results. I think Evan Turner will continue to develop as a leader of this team, in a way that Kosta Koufos for example will not. (JMO, and not a slam on Kosta.)

And I totally understand what you are saying, and I do believe that he will be a leader and he is that type of player, along with the way I think Lighty will be and Diebler will be...They all seem to be those type of players, that try and bring up their teammates and show energy...

I think we are just merely splitting hairs when I say that is just won't be one person's team in particular...
