QB question tops Penn St.'s concerns entering spring
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Forget, for a moment, the peripheral issues hovering over Penn State football. Joe Paterno has plenty enough to worry about on the field as spring practice kicks off this week.
Among the top questions for the Nittany Lions as they begin preparing for 2008 is at quarterback, where Daryll Clark and Pat Devlin will compete to start.
Clark was the primary backup the last two years to Anthony Morelli. Devlin rarely saw the field last season as a third-stringer, though the Downingtown East graduate could bear watching given his credentials as Pennsylvania's high school career passing leader.

PSU's Knowledge Timmons said he's among four who were reinstated.

The Penn State Nittany Lions appear to be closer to full strength with the football season still four months away.
Knowledge Timmons, the former William Penn standout, said he was reinstated to the team late Wednesday -- along with starting defensive tackle Chris Baker, linebacker Navorro Bowman and tight end Andrew Quarless, two more potential starters.
"It's a relief," Timmons said. "I got another chance. It's a fresh start, sort of."
Timmons, a junior, had been suspended from the Penn State team since November for his behavior in the moments after a fight in the student union last fall, where police said he overturned tables and refused to leave the scene.
Baker and Bowman also were suspended for their alleged involvement in the fight. Baker was cleared of any wrongdoing by Penn State's office of judicial affairs but does still face two possible court cases, including one in relation to another fight.
The three did not make the trip to play Michigan State or to the Alamo Bowl. They also did not participate in spring practice, including last Saturday's Blue-White Game.
Defensive tackle Phil Taylor, also charged in the student union fight, has been suspended by the university through the summer. He could return in time for preseason workouts in August.
Quarless had been suspended for a DUI charge.
o change in status of PSU suspended players

Penn State spokesman Guido D'Elia shot down a York Daily Record story that Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has lifted the suspensions of four players -- defensive tackle Chris Baker, linebacker Navorro Bowman, tight end Andrew Quarless and defensive back Knowledge Timmons.
"There is no change in the status of those players, they are still suspended,'' D'Elia told the Patriot-News Friday afternoon.
The Record quoted Timmons as saying the players were reinstated Wednesday night. PSU spokesman Jeff Nelson said Friday morning that he had no definitive update on the status of the four players.
According to a PSU source, Paterno held a players meeting earlier this week and invited the four players -- Baker, Bowman, Timmons and Quarless -- and told them they will not return to the team until their off-field issues are cleared up and their academic deficiencies improve.
Baker, Bowman and Timmons are still facing charges for their roles in 2007 fights -- Baker is facing charges in two fights, Bowman and Timmons one each -- and Quarless was charged with DUI by State College police in March.
A fifth PSU player, defensive tackle Phil Taylor, also remains suspended.
