Ohio State 55, North Carolina 66 (Final)

If Ty Lawson is out then I think that we have a good shot at taking this game. Frasor is a little better than Lawson on the defensive end but Lawson is a dynamic offensive player and Frasor sorely lacks that production. If we are able to focus on Hansborough and Ellington then we should be able to contain their offense, at least some. If Lawson is in there, we will really struggle in the zone.

The other thing is that we are taller and longer than them at pretty much every position. That size should help us on the defensive end, but like some other posters have said, its all about rebounding.

Like you guys have already stated, if Koufos stays out of foul trouble, then the Bucks will be able to keep it close.

Had a long writeup written up that took me about 30 minutes, and accidentally hit the x in the tab button and lost all I had when I moved back and forth between tabs...:(

So I figured I would put something up, but not all that I had...

UNC Starters:

Hansbrough - We know what we are going to get a banger, that won't quit...Gotta keep him off the boards...He is averaging 3 to's/game so hopefully we can capatilize on that a little bit...KK, Hunter, Twig, and Lauderdale can hopefully give him some bodies to where he won't just wear our guys down.

Deon Thompson - Not really a scorer, but he can score if we don't keep him off the boards...Another big body that they will run out there...

Marcus Ginyard - He is more of a defender, not a great shooter by any means shoots in 25% range from long distance, but does get after it on defense and on the boards...Averages as many boards 6 as he does pts/game.

Wayne Ellington - He is a sharpshooter, shooting 48% from downtown...He is not as good off the dribble as he is off the catch and shoot, so we need to make him put it on the floor, but he can. Gotta stay out on him, especially if Ginyard, Thompson, and Hansbrough are on the court, as he and Frasor present the only shooting threats...No reason to double off those two guys...Hope Lighy, Diebler, and Turner can use their length to effect his shot, and make him put the ball on teh floor. I think the key to beating them is holding Ellington down, if you remember last year against us was his birthday and he went for 19 pts or so...

Bobby Frasor - I put him here, b/c I don't expect Lawson to play much if at all...No reason for UNC to risk any more injury they are going for the bigger prize...Not just one OOC game. Frasor is not anywhere near the creator that Lawson is, he is a shooter, but more of a catch and shoot guy...I think that Butler can give him trouble on both ends of the floor.

Without Lawson they will probably go about 8 deep, we will see Quinton Thomas, Alex Stephson, Danny Green.

Thomas is a quicker pg than Frasor, doesnt shoot the ball well, but can create better than Frasor.

Stephson is another big body, doesnt score that much, but does get on the board. Averaging 7 boards/game in 15 minutes...We are going to need to keep him off the boards...

Green - Comes off the bench to give spark offensively...3rd leading scorer on the team, and shoots the ball well from outside...Don't really know if he is a catch and shoot guy or off the dribble guy, but I am assuming more of the catch and shoot variety...Another guy we will need to stay out on...

What I see from UNC is a team that really don't create for each other, they will force some shots, and they hope to get offensive rebounds from Hansbrough, Thompson, Ginyard, and Stephson and get easy putbacks. They also love to run the floor and get up and down...I think that we can match that, but I also would like to see us slow down at times and run some sets...I think that KK can shoot over Hansbrough, so I would like to see him get the ball about 10 feet and square up and hit some jumpers...Much like Tim Duncan......

I think without them having Lawson we really have a decent shot at this game...Frasor and Thomas are nice players, but not in Lawsons league and neither really creates like Lawson, so it maybe harder for guys like Ellington and Green to get open looks from the outside, and cause them to force a little more than they would like, and might also take away from some shots that Frasor would get as he will have more pg duties in this game...

Overall we are going to need a big game from KK, Butler, and Lighty, and would love to see Hunter get it going some and would really like to see a breakout game from Diebler...It is just a matter of time...

We need to keep them off the boards, and control the tempo, and we have a shot at this one...

We don't shoot the ball well, and don't rebound it could get ugly, and I mean ugly...

Don't want to get ahead of myself, but I am kinda on the edge of liking our chances in this game...

OSU-North Carolina game preview

By Bob Baptist

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
OHIO STATE VS. NO. 1 NORTH CAROLINA

9 tonight
? Where: Value City Arena
? TV: ESPN
? Radio: WBNS-AM (1460), WBNS-FM (97.1)
? Records: Ohio State 4-1, North Carolina 5-0
? Matchup to watch: North Carolina beast Tyler Hansbrough (21 points, 14 rebounds) was too much for Othello Hunter and Matt Terwilliger to handle in the Tar Heels' 98-89 win last season. Reinforcements have arrived for the Buckeyes. Will they be enough?
? Noteworthy: Ohio State has won six of its past seven games against No. 1-ranked teams. ... The Buckeyes are 32-0 in nonconference home games during coach Thad Matta's tenure and have a 27-game winning streak in Value City Arena. The last loss was to Michigan State in double overtime Jan. 15, 2006. ... Hunter, who played four minutes against VMI on Sunday because of an upper-respiratory infection, practiced the past two days and is expected to start. ... North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson is questionable because of a sprained ankle. Coach Roy Williams said Lawson's status for practice yesterday was "limited, and that's wishful thinking."
? Next up: at Butler, 7:30 p.m. Saturday

Big plans for UNC's big man, Hansbrough

Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter

Columbus -- Ohio State 7-foot freshman Kosta Koufos hasn't seen a college player with the size, skill and experience of North Carolina junior Tyler Hansbrough. The good thing is, he won't see another one like him during Big Ten conference play.
When the Buckeyes host the No. 1 Tar Heels in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge tonight, they'll get a second chance to figure out if they have the toughness and know-how to defend inside. In their lone loss this season, to Texas A&M, the Buckeyes were beaten on the boards, 46-30, by the Aggies, and the A&M inside tandem of Joseph Jones and DeAndre Jordan combined for 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting. Now here comes a 6-9, 250-pound All-American to test them again.
"I want to see how they handle themselves against a player like Hansbrough," OSU senior point guard Jamar Butler said of his frontcourt teammates.

Hansbrough worries Ohio St.
By Rusty Miller
Associated Press

COLUMBUS - Whippet-quick point guard Ty Lawson may not be able to play when top-ranked North Carolina plays Ohio State tonight in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
No matter, Buckeyes coach Thad Matta said. It's not one individual who makes the Tar Heels so good.
"The great thing about North Carolina, you know they're going to do what they do," Matta said. "They've got a little bit of the Green Bay Packers in them - this is who we are, here we come, stop us."
In a rematch of a marquee game from a year ago, the Tar Heels have a decided upper hand this time around: more experience, more depth, center Tyler Hansbrough and a full complement of other weapons.

Frasor may get his shot

Lawson's injury could open door

CHAPEL HILL - Last year's game against Ohio State in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge marked point guard Bobby Frasor's switch from starter to reserve.

Tonight's rematch at the Buckeyes, however, might see the North Carolina junior return from reserve to starter.
With sophomore Ty Lawson's playing status questionable because of a sprained right ankle, Frasor said he is prepared to return to the role he lost last season because of a nagging foot injury. "I'll just be ready to go from the start," said the 6-foot-3, 208 pounder who is averaging 3.8 points and 17.8 minutes this season, "and hopefully, the team won't show any sign of weakness."

Go Bucks!

Hey all, First post here I think, I've had this account forever, but mainly to lurk

anyhow, If Jon Diebler, David Lighty, and Othello Hunter step up for this one, The fan base shouldn't need to worry if Koufous or Jamal are having a good game or not. Bieng the experienced players that both are (I say experience for Koufous from his Greek Stint) they will kick start themselves if the first 3 are all really getting after it..

I'm truly excited about this game, I feel they will come out with something to prove..
They certainly have the chance to negate a few of UNC's weapons and can take this game tonight!

Go Bucks! :oh:

Buckeyes go after No. 1 tonight
Ohio State will play host to top-ranked North Carolina at Value City Arena

MIKE POPOVICH
Canton Repository

COLUMBUS ? Many of this year?s Ohio State basketball players don?t know the first thing about playing a No. 1 team.

They just have not experienced it like resident expert Jamar Butler has. Butler already owns two wins over top-ranked teams. The senior guard hopes to complete the hat trick tonight when the Buckeyes host No. 1 North Carolina in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.
?This is what you dream about growing up as a kid, playing on national TV against the No. 1 team in the country in your own gym. It?s very exciting,? Butler said.
