Ohio State 54 Butler 51 (Final)

We certainly have more shooters who have established range than we've had in my memory.

Diebler, Buford, Simmons, Turner and Lighty have all demonstrated the ability to hit the trey when necessary, so I'm really not all that concerned about zone busting. I'd much rather have 5 guys all of whom have demonstrated 33% than one guy who hits 48% (averages here). Not all of them are likely to go cold the same night.
how far back does your memory go?

See, I'm not yet convinced we have the shooters to shoot someone out of a zone. Diebler is still streaky. Lighty has not yet shown me the ability to knock them down with any consistency. Simmons is shooting 36% from 3, but seems to have the propensity for taking long 3's early in the shot clock. Buford's shot looks good, but he's only made 2 3's in his entire collegiate career (yeah, all of 5 games - nice misleading stat, jerk :p). Turner's only attempted 4 this season after shooting just 33% last year.

EDIT - I know you see the guys outside of game situations and have more confidence in their shooting than I do, I just haven't seen enough to be convinced yet.

If I'm defending OSU at this point, I collapse the zone, refuse Lighty and (especially) Turner penetration and hope that Diebler and Simmons aren't shooting lights out. The only time the offense has looked really good is with the ball in Turner's hands and he is penetrating. When he does that, he can score, he can feed the big guys, he can kick it for an open jumper. Keep Turner out of the lane at almost any cost.

BG did a nice job of it, I thought.

Yea but if you collapse the 3's are easier to take and make...These guys can shoot the rock...Obviously Diebler is streaky, but there aren't any teams that are going to lack off of him...Simmons the same way...Buford as well...Sometimes it is more the threat, and if they are collapsing on Turner and Lighty then guys like Diebler, Buford, and Simmons are going to need to penetrate and get to the gaps to reverse the ball then Turner to find the gaps and create...

Miami showed giving Lighty the 3 is a good idea and slacking off of him...But that worked that game, but Lighty was having trouble with his knee then, and with a week off his jumper should be much cleaner...

OSU men's basketball: Small schools, big tests
Matta, Ohio State not afraid to take risk of scheduling mid-majors such as Butler

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Before Thad Matta became coach, there was a span of time in which the Ohio State men's basketball team would not do what it will do today for the third time in four years. The risk of losing to a smaller school with a big-time reputation was judged to outweigh any reward from winning.
In his first season at Ohio State, Matta scheduled a home-and-home series with St. Joseph's, one of the top programs in the Atlantic 10 and one that had been ranked No. 1 in the nation the previous spring.
In his second season, Matta scheduled a four-game series with his alma mater, Butler, which had become a giant-killer the previous decade during the coaching tenures of Barry Collier, Matta and Todd Lickliter. The third of those four games, matching undefeated teams, is at noon today in Value City Arena.
In Matta's third season, others Ohio schools appeared on the Buckeyes' schedule for the first time in eight years. There has been at least one each year since, and will be again next year when Cleveland State, a rising threat under coach Gary Waters, completes a three-game contract with Ohio State.
"Playing quality opponents, I think, usually turns out to be pretty good games for you," Matta said.
Even more so when they're on the road.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
OHIO STATE VS. BUTLER

Noon today
? Where: Value City Arena
? TV: Big Ten Network
? Radio: WBNS-AM (1460)
? Records: Ohio State 5-0, Butler 8-0
? Matchup to watch: Butler center Matt Howard had his coming-out party as a freshman against Ohio State last season, exploiting openings inside the Buckeyes' matchup zone for 23 points and four offensive rebounds. The Buckeyes must have their heads on a swivel and rotate because Butler will try to draw baseline defenders to the corners and slide Howard in behind them.
