Ohio State 54 Butler 51 (Final)

Whoever says our defense needs to change must be watching the games on radio.

What the Butler game proved above everything else, IMO, is that on offense we are utterly and completely reliant on Evan Turner. We have no flow at all when he's out of the game, and he seems like the kind of guy that needs to be on the floor for 40 minutes to be optimally effective.

Actually, I did see the game on TV thanks to Mediacom finally picking up the BTN.

All I'm saying is that when you face a team with great 3 point shooters, they will find open looks against our zone. Yesterday, Butler had a very hot shooter and with the exception of one of his makes, his looks were WIDE open. Our guys had to know they were trying to get him the ball every time, yet he still got open looks. Only two other guys on their team even had a field goal.

Overall, our defense has been awesome. But I'm just concerned about what will happen when we play some other teams with great 3 point shooters. I can't help but wonder what that kid from the U may have done if he didn't get booted out of the game.

I'm not a statistician but I'm pretty sure that the closer you get to the basket the higher the % you will make the shot. Matta was comfortable with them shooting 3's all game. They only scored 51 points.

Our offense is the problem right now. If we would have shot free throws better and made 4-5 more baskets we beat these guys by 20. Matta knows it, their coach knows it, and our team knows it. We shot the ball horribly!!!

The problem with fans is alot of the time they don't see the big picture. If we hold teams like ND to around 60 points and teams like Butler to 50 we are gonna win a hell of alot of games. Matta knows this. Matta made Butler one-dimensional. We won the game.

Consider that most teams have played at least 2 more games than we have. Give these guys a few more games. This team has a B10 title defense.

not the best performance....but keep in mind:

Butler was in the bonus with THIRTEEN minutes left in the second half. 7 fouls in seven minutes. And if you go back and look at the tape, 5 were non-calls in regular Big 10 play. Evan sat for long periods on the bench in foul trouble, and there was never any rhythm on offense in the second half.

Butler climbed back into the game, after being down 13 by mostly shooting free throws, and 3 point shooting by Hayward.

Not a great performance today, but if you can't touch an offensive player as a defender, it's tough to get stops or prevent them going to the stripe. Once Butler got the momentum, OSU could never get it back. Thankfully, they were able to hold on and get the W.
.

Dreadfully inconsistent. They called 2 falls in the first 10+ minutes of play. Called a fairly normal style for the next 10. Went whistle-happy in the first 10 of the 2nd half. Called a normal game for the next 6 and swallowed their whistles for the last 4. Dammit, I don't care HOW you call it, just call it the same at both ends and for the entire game. :pissed:

Another exasperating and head-scratching game. It absolutely befuddles me how they can look so good on offense against UM (2nd half) and ND, but look so lost yesterday.

I can't say I'm too suprised. I was expecting an ugly game and I got to see one.

What did they call on those falls - traveling? :tongue2:

This game will be re-broadcast on BTN at the top of the hour.

Falls, fouls. Potato, potato.

I'll just blame my voice software like LitL. :tongue2:

Watching the replay, they just had one fall called traveling. But it was 10:32 into the game, Butler fell on an offensive board and got called for walking after he fell.
