Game Thread Ohio State 45, Northwestern 10 (Nov. 8)

So the weather forcast is for 30 MPH sustained winds. Rain and snow mix. I'm not sure who this helps, or what is going to happen. But i've always said bad weather helps the home team and the underdog. Well...I hope that isn't true, because it's going to be nasty tomorrow.

I personally think it favors the team with the best running game and defense. I like our chances.

I never understood why bad weather would favor a defense. An offensve player gets to know where he is going to go. The defense chases and reacts. So more likely to slip or be slower. At least that is what I think.

Have you seen a lot of shootouts in the rain? Or fast football?

Would you wish to race an inferior athlete around an obstacle course in sloppy conditions or dry conditions?

Dry. That's why chasing a guy in bad weather would be harder.

Weather evens things out. But I think it makes a great defense, less great. Moreso than it would an offense.

OSU hoping the morning reverie turns into revelry

By JON SPENCER ? Gannett News Service ? November 8, 2008

COLUMBUS - Maybe morning football will agree with Ohio State. Playing under the lights hasn't.
Today's 11 a.m. kickoff at Northwestern (noon Eastern time) will feature a pair of 7-2 teams and add a slightly different twist to the season for the 12th-ranked Buckeyes, whose losses to USC and Penn State have come in prime-time settings with the offense failing to score a touchdown.
"The crazy thing about this game is that we're getting up at 6 a.m. and playing at 11," tight end Rory Nicol said. "November is always a crazy month. Look what happened Nov. 1 with Texas Tech beating (No. 1 Texas). We always talk about November being a whole new month, but it's true. So much can change. We have to concern ourselves with the next three games because we still have a great chance at a BCS (bowl) game."

toledoblade.com -- Early kickoff suits Buckeyes

"I think our guys like the fact that it's an early start because they get a chance to go on the road, wake up and go play a football game, and not have to sit around and be nervous and all those types of things," Tressel said. "I think we'll get to some traditional November Big Ten weather, and I think our guys are excited to wake up early and tee it up."

"The biggest thing we need to concern ourselves with is winning these three games, because we've still got a great chance to get into a BCS bowl," Nicol said. "All those other things are going to have to take care of themselves. The only thing we can control is what we do and how successful we are."

Take care of business.

Northwestern will miss Sutton's presence vs. OSU

Saturday, November 08, 2008 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter

Columbus- Tyrell Sutton wanted to hide his pain, so while two of his roommates - quarterback Mike Kafka and safety Brendan Smith - were leading Northwestern to an upset victory at Minnesota last week, the senior running back was home in their apartment, nearly re-injuring his surgically repaired wrist while jumping around in celebration.

From the burbs

Light flurries in the burbs this morning as I was in my driveway.

Warmer by the lake, so anything that falls from the sky today will likely be rain.

Probability of a slopfest today: Very high.

Should be a fun game to watch if we can keep the ball off the turf.

Go BUCKS!
