Winning streak on line for Buckeyes
Regular-season run began after 2005 loss at Penn State

MIKE MUNDEN | DISPATCH
The Buckeyes and Troy Smith were flattened by Penn State the last time they traveled to Happy Valley, on Oct. 8, 2005.

When Ohio State players walk onto the Beaver Stadium turf Saturday, they should check for a chalk outline of Troy Smith. It was near midfield and nearing midnight on Oct. 8, 2005, when Smith was sacked by Penn State's Tamba Hali and fumbled. The ball was recovered by Scott Paxson, sealing the Nittany Lions' 17-10 victory.

Morelli tries to live up to billing

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Five years ago, many who watched Anthony Morelli pass the football at Penn Hills (Pa.) High School thought he had a chance to become the next Dan Marino. He had the arm. He was committed to Marino's alma mater, Pittsburgh, which was dedicated to throwing the ball. Their names even rolled off the tongue the same way: Marino ? Morelli.

OSU notebook: Players won't go pale over 'white out'

Friday, October 26, 2007 3:22 AM
By Tim May

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State players know that the atmosphere in Penn State's Beaver Stadium can be imposing, but as far as the "white out" promotion that students have planned for Saturday night, the Buckeyes have been there, seen that.

OSU notebook: Players won't go pale over 'white out'

Do any players really have an issue with the opposing fans all dressing the same? I can understand the issue of the noise, and that's going to be loud to start the game tomorrow night. But the color-coordinating - how intimidating can that be?

NHL wants trademark 'White Out' faded out

http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2007/09/06/nhl_wants_trademark_white_out.aspx

... "As of last year, when we spoke with representatives from the university, they understood that they could use it one time," he said. "We had an agreement, and now they are apparently not living up to what they say."

The Phoenix Coyotes, a National Hockey League (NHL) team, originally the Winnipeg Jets, coined the term "Winnipeg White Out" in 1987, asking fans to sport the color to a playoff game against the Calgary Flames, in response to their "sea of red."

A note was sent to Penn State last year from the NHL team. Taking heed, Myford said the two-word phrase was barred from the university's official White Out T-shirts. ...

White Out copycats

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/columns/articles/1016p2main1016.html

The Coyotes haven't gotten much use lately out of their "White Out" tradition of filling their arena with white-clad fans for the playoffs.

But that doesn't mean they're going to stand by without a fight and let anybody else take it.

It seems that Penn State has developed a similar tradition, designating some important games as "White Outs." ...

It's incredibly intimidating. Just ask Purdue when they did their Black out on us.

Penn State's defense, Happy Valley crowd should test Ohio State

By Bruce Hooley
Special to ESPN.com

Updated: October 24, 2007

He's already outlasted a handful of would-be successors who tired of waiting for him to step aside, and only a lover of the longest odds would bet against Joe Paterno's doing the same to the three current assistants who've been on his staff 20, 29 and 30 years, respectively.
The guy who will be opposite the Penn State legend Saturday night could have, with a tweak of his career path, been one of those frustrated lieutenants, too.

It's hard to imagine Jim Tressel anywhere but in his sweater vest on the Ohio State sideline, since he's been a fixture there over the past seven years.

But before taking OSU to two title games -- and the brink of another with his Buckeyes (8-0 overall, 4-0 Big Ten) currently ranked No. 1 -- there was a day when Tressel coveted a spot as close as he could get to the man he will oppose in Beaver Stadium on Saturday (ABC, 8 p.m. ET).

how many different color schemes can a fan base really go with? 2? 3 maybe? 97 if we're talking oregon?

even if a fan base doesn't "color coordinate", they should still be fairly color coordinated simply by wearing their teams colors right?
