THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
When Buckeyes run

EDGE: OSU

The expected return of Chris "Beanie" Wells -- probably for 15 carries rather than 30 -- will boost Ohio State's ground game. Dan Herron gained 94 yards last week on 20 carries, and QB Terrelle Pryor has 195 yards in part-time duty. Though it has won handily in three of its four games, Minnesota has yielded an average of nearly 110 rushing yards per game against lesser competition.
When Buckeyes pass

EDGE: OSU

Ohio State is last in the Big Ten in passing yardage and Minnesota is last in pass defense, but both stats are misleading. For instance, the Buckeyes threw just 17 times last week but Pryor had four touchdown passes, and Minnesota's opponents have been behind and pass-happy (38 attempts per game). The Gophers have eight interceptions, but only six sacks.

Ohio State Buckeyes pose big test for Minnesota Gophers football team

Undefeated Gophers ready to try out improved defense
By Marcus R. Fuller

Article Last Updated: 09/27/2008 12:57:35 AM CDT

Tim Brewster got tired of answering questions this week about how good his opponent in the Big Ten Conference opener is, so he started quoting former Vikings coach Dennis Green.
"They are who we thought they were," said the Gophers' second-year coach, alluding to the fact that his team won't be surprised by 14th-ranked Ohio State (3-1) today. "I can use that phrase with Ohio State." But are the Gophers (4-0) as good as they appeared to be during the nonconference season? Can their much-improved defense keep producing turnovers at a rapid rate? Can promising young quarterback Adam Weber keep limiting his mistakes and be productive? Can the Big Ten's leading receiver, Eric Decker, remain unstoppable?

Ohio State football: What will happen with Minnesota

APMinnesota receiver Eric Decker, in the air, is one of the players the Buckeyes have noticed on film.

I think Ohio State is in for a big win.

Or least the Buckeyes, 19-point favorites, need to be.
At 4-0, Minnesota is just good enough to keep the Buckeyes' attention. And that's a good thing for OSU fans.
"I think you can just see they're flying around, they're hitting guys, they have a fire underneath them, they're running around and hitting people," OSU left tackle Alex Boone said this week. "Last year when we watched them, it was kind of like, 'Oh, it's Minnesota.' This year, it's kind of like, 'Oh, it's Minnesota!'

Numbers to keep in mind this week:

The last time 2 Buckeyes rushed for 100+ in the same game:
The 2005 Iowa Game
Antonio Pittman: 171
Troy Smith: 127

Ohio State has never had 2 backs rush for 100+ vs. Minnesota
No Ohio State running back has ever rushed for 200+ vs. Minnesota

OK, it's getting near kickoff on the BTN network.

In this game thread, if you have some analysis, feel free to share it. But remember, there's never any bashing of Buckeyes on this board.

And if you just want to whine, please keep it to yourself - game thread whining is an actual infraction that the mods will issue.

It should be great to see what Beanie and TP can do together.

Enjoy the game, and Go Bucks!
