Game Thread Ohio State 34, Minnesota 21 (Sep. 27)

So this is the start of the Big Ten season. A much improved Minnesota team will be coming into The 'Shoe. Sure, they have not played any top teams yet this year, and this will be their first real test, but as we saw last night with USC, even beating middle of the road teams can be tough sometimes. So any team that is 4-0 can not be taken lightly. The rain looks like it will hold off, and Beanie Wells looks like he is going to get some carries. Now is the time that this team has got to start to gel together. Whether it is rallying around Pryor or Beanie...or whether the defense steps up, and line play get solid, something needs to start really gelling.

The one thing I have seen out of the Ohio State team since game one, is that they have been consistantly inconsistant. One drive we look like a top 5 team, and the next drive we look like a D-1aa team. The O-line has had it's issues and injuries, our rushing attack has also dealt with the same, and our QB situation has been more inconsistant than either of the two. This is where the real season starts. The past four weeks have had highlights, and lowlights, but we need to take everything that has happened, build upon it, and start the pathway to the Big Ten off right.

In this Big Ten opener the most important thing is winning. Win and i'm happy. Lose and i'm not. But i'd like to see our pass defense step up, get some picks, and stop a QB who has completed more than 70% of his passes this year. Our secondary has been a bright spot for the defense so far. I look for Kurt Coleman to step up big again. He has been getting better and better coming back from his injury. Every time he is on the field, good things seem to happen. We also need to improve our tackling. I don't want to see any possible sacks that get escaped from, or any TFLs turn into 5 yard gains. Everybody on the defense needs to tackle better. Sometimes I feel like Malcom Jenkins is our best tackler, and as great of a player as he is...the whole team should be tackling like him. And our linebackers need to step up. ALL OF THEM. Maybe it's our d-line being soft in the middle, but the LBs need to start playing like the best unit in the country. Hopefully the coaching staff has made the corrections necessary to get this defense playing it's best. I may be one of the few people, but I have always been more excited watching Buckeye Defense than Buckeye Offense. I love watching guys hit, tackle, and create big plays and turnovers on defense. And that's what i'm looking forward to seeing tomorrow. Terrelle Pryor and Beanie Wells are hopefully just amazing bonuses.

Go Bucks!!

"inconsistency is the trademark of mediocrity"
Well, hopefully now that it counts towards a Big Ten championship, mediocrity will be transformed into exceptionality (is that a word?). We have some studs on both sides of the ball...this need to be the start of them playing together. Guys like Beanie Wells and Malcom Jenkins need to step up vocally and on the field. And I know, both have already done everything the can, but I feel like these guys are the leaders of this team, and can really get the rest of the units to step up when they step up. I love Terrelle Pryor's excitement and passion for the game, but we have some players on this team who have won multiple Big Ten championships. They know what it takes. Pryor doesn't yet. The team need to lean on the experienced guys to get them though these next eight games where they belong, ON TOP OF THE BIG TEN AND IN PASADENA.

you know why you guys arent hockey fans?

you dont think of the world in terms
-scoring more goals than the other teams wins the game
-getting pucks in deep, playing in the tough places on the ice and getting traffic on net are "complicated talk"
-you think mullets are outdated

Keep that hockey talk up in this thread and we'll surely have some Gopher fans visiting!

BTW, I didn't make it past the word "puck" in your post as I have no idea what that is. :p
