Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

As a JUNIOR CW made the monster look like a fuzzy stuffed toy with his 1,609, 15 TD performance. That against a conference that opts to play defense (usc the obvious exception to the pac10 rule). My bad east coast bias.
Thats how you see it, but on some football boards, they say the big-10 has no offenses, so thats why their defensive stats look good. On the other hand, pac-10 teams have more wide open offensive schemes, so the defensive stats are misleading. Its all varying opinions.:)

There are those stats again! Based on these, I would think that the pac-10 plays defense, and the big 10 doesnt. Here comes the defense stats! By the way, these are LAST year, so your point is moot. By the way, if you average it out, big-10 ave. ranking is 54, and the pac-10 is 56.8, so not much of a difference.

WOW! Am I not supposed to reply on a thread? I thought this was a board for football conversations and questions. Alot of these are debate type questions and the topic is SC, the team I follow. So, sorry if you dont like it, but I dont know what else to tell you.

I know, those pesky facts always get in the way of a good opinion don't they.

As far as the average goes thats disingenius at best. Look at the ranges.
Teams in the top 25: B10 1 Pac10 1
25-49: B10 5 Pac10 2
50-74: B10 4 Pac10 5
75-99: B10 0 Pac10 1
100+: B10 1 Pac10 1

B10 has a higher concentration of good offensive teams and anyway you want to slice it has an edge in scoring offense. This of course flies in the face of the assertation the B10 has no offensive teams therefore our defensive stats are inflated.

Speaking of the defensive stats:

2007 final NCAA rank in scoring D

B10
#1 OSU
#7 PSU
#12 Iowa
#23 scUM
#26 Illinois
#35 Wisc
#54 Purdue
#57 MSU
#69 IU
#88 NU
#109 Minny

Pac 10
#2 USC
#29 UCLA
#31 ASU
#33 Oregon State
#40 Oregon
#58 Cal
#59 UA
#65 Stanford
#92 UW
#97 WSU

Now some boards theories are completely shot in the ass.

Not really. Since you like stats so much, take into account OOC teams each conference played. There ya go! Looks like all these stats dont mean squat! Quality opponents ooc versus non quality. Bottom line, slice it how you like, stats can be, and alot of times are misleading. I read all over how sec teams beef up there stats playing weak ooc teams. Start slicing!

I'll assume those are the same boards that say Beanie wouldn't make the roster at USC. You're swinging wild again, T1. If you're going to mention stats on this board, you'd better look at them for yourself first. I assure you that if Jax hadn't posted those, about a dozen other people would have. I think the variations in opinion are due to one side doing research, and one not.

Defense looks even worse for the Pac-10. The majority of the Big Ten is in the top 40, majority Pac-10 - bottom 50. That's why you don't rate defense on offensive stats. If you have THIS year's stats, I'd love to see them.

You left out the part about ooc opponents. Also, what I am saying is stats can be misleading, for instance, SC#34 off., stanford#105 off., SC#2 def., stanford#65 def. SC loses Doesnt add up. OSU#41 off.,Ill.#58 off. OSU#1 def., Ill.##26 def. Who wins? Thats all I am trying to say. Stats dont always tell the story, and cant figure things into it like emotions, rivalries, things like that.
