Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

USC has potientially 15 players in the NFL draft, and seven were taken in the first 2 rounds. I'm surprised that they are rated as high as they are.

Ten were taken. But -

In the past three classes (2005-2007) alone USC has recruited 25 kids who were rated in the TOP FIVE at their position nationally. They have TWO #1 QB recruits on their roster. (We got 7 such kids during that same stretch.)

I love where our recruiting is going , but even what we did last year and are doing this year does not compare to what USC has been doing consistently for over 5 years.

Of course, there are factors other than raw talent that will decide this game.

By the way, mighty USC fell four short of our modern-day draft record of 14...the way ESPiN was talking, you'd have thought the entire USC team was going to get drafted.

If Herbie's jaw and throat muscles have sufficently recovered from that 3 hour fellating he gave the men from Troy on Jan 1, I think he should do a special on USC's record breaking draft year.

I know it wasn't really a record but its USC, it sounds cool and it gives Herbie another chance to blow someone at the behest of his ESPN story writers. Its not like they are going to let facts and shit get in the way of a good story line.

Herbie, as much as I hate to say it, was helping them out in that effort, too...as usual. Couldn't take it anymore, had to shut the sound down. I'm convinced, sometimes anyway, he and Petey are seeing each other. They must be. :(

Doesn't compare? Maybe not if you buy into scout or rivals.com but it sure does when it leaves campus for the NFL.

50 players have been drafted under Tressel.
42 players have been drafted under Carroll.

11 players have gone in the 1st round under Tressel.
10 players have gone in the 1st round under Carroll.

This is including this year's draft which was supposed to be USC's money year and our rebuilding year. Next year should look even more favorable for us.

Forgive Petey if he hasn't developed his 5* players as well as our man JT. The guy was busy. Busy A) Mastering a plan to throw a dummy off the side of a building, claiming LenDale "The Other" White "Meat" couldn't handle things anymore, and jumped to his grave, and B) Making sure Snoopity Snoop Snoop was comfortable while attending practice.

Hello there, Buckeyes.

Spring ball is over and I thought I'd come over and take a gander on your board to see what the feeling is about playing my beloved Trojans this year.

This game has been on the books for what seems like forever. I was hoping we'd have already played by now for a NC game, but alas, Booty's broken finger (and a goddamn reseerve Stanford QB's jumpball) dashed my hopes.

Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to our upcoming game in Los Angeles. Should be a doozy. I am under no illusions about our offense yet (Sanchez and our O-line are projects right now), but I am very much looking forward to the tOSU power running game matched up against our linebackers.

Cushing is a beast, Rey's rep precedes him, and I believe Maiava will be on the weak side. Wells is no slouch so it will be interesting to watch 18 wheelers collide every series.

Our defense should hold up pretty well, though I believe tOSU's defense is equally up to the challenge. Do you all have a rollover depth chart I could peruse?

Here's ours:

Anyhow, just wanted to introduce myself and learn more about the 2008 Buckeyes. You should have a fine time in Los Angeles. USC fans are usually pretty classy (unless they're ex-Raider fans).

FIGHT ON and GO BUCKS!

Glad to have someone from your fanbase stop by, we weren't sure if there were any out there. We've enjoyed large waves of visiting fans in recent years, Texas, Okie State, even ND to an extent... and enjoy the outside influence if they leave the scout free board types back home (ours are bad as well).

Feel free to bring any and all that can talk football while keeping it civil. We corralled a good one of yours 'freemethomps' (methomps on bp) as a moderator a few years back.

The only changes are at FB, RT, LEO (DE) & SLB. The replacement LEO will be Thaddeus Gibson. FB will be by committee, Curtis Terry crosses over occasionally to take reps there. He is also one in the mix to start at SLB. RT may be Bryant Browning from Glenville. We had hoped Mike Adams would continue to push for time here, but he tore his shoulder early in camp and will be out until sometime in early fall.

Looks like alot of experience coming back for you on both sides of the ball. Boeckman is a rs senior? Is this his second season starting? I'm glad we're not facing Ghoulston, kid was a beast. Wells is going to be a road grader.

I wonder whether we can finally get our receiving corp in order. We've been spoiled to death in recent years by waves of great receivers until last year. Seems no one really emerged as the goto guy (unless you count TE Fred Davis). We'll have to rectify that to have any chance at a successful season.

Methomps is a good one all right. I'm sure SC fans will emerge from the shadows as gameday approaches, and I'll apologize for the trolls in advance.

Boeckman is actually a grayshirt senior, grayshirted in 03, redshirted in 04... so he's a 6th year senior.

Lawrence Wilson actually entered last year as OSU's best DE. Very good pass rusher, but more importantly, a more complete DE against the run (not Vern's strong suit). He went down with a broken leg in early september and never played again. He has been a regular in the DL rotation since his true frosh year in 05.

Cam Heyward has also emerged as a force up front, just months after everyone was lamenting the "epic loss" of Ben Martin to Tennessee. You will see formations with all three DEs on the field (Heyward, Wilson, Gibson) to provide versatility up front. I look forward to seeing this in action, as OSU's play on the interior DL was suspect at times. Also, Robert Rose had high expectations coming into last year but struggled to stay healthy. If he can kick the injury bug, he's another mammoth versatile DL who can slide in and outside like Heyward.
I wonder whether we can finally get our receiving corp in order. We've been spoiled to death in recent years by waves of great receivers until last year.
Not too different from OSU, with Jenkins, Holmes, Ginn, Gonzalez. Robiskie was emerging early last year but after tearing his knee (and playing through it) his production dropped off considerably. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off vs Northwestern (3 tds) but skip the injury bug (same game). OSU has good WRs but lacks the true gamebreaker they've enjoyed in recent years. Hopes were high for Ray Small to continue that tradition but has not put it together. Incoming frosh Devier Posey arrives with plenty of hype, but that's a tall order for any true frosh.
I'm sure SC fans will emerge from the shadows as gameday approaches, and I'll apologize for the trolls in advance.
We deal with them swiftly, including methomps.

So, does that mean Boeckman is a Senior citizen?

I think our receivers have been raised thinking all they have to do is show up and run their routes, but somewhere in there they've forgotten how to catch the ball and bullrush the DB's. All our guys are big enough but I'm not sure they know it's not enough to be able to run a slant.

We've got Hazelton, Turner, David Ausberry, Ronald Johnson. All have the size but we're waiting for Godot here.

Nope, Pretorious (29) holds the AARP card.

How is that Arkansas transfer looking at WR, now that he's cleared to play (after 1 yr off)?

They reported on 570, the local sports station here, that Sanchez was going to be the starter. The guy went to HS right by where I work, and was great, I am glad he's getting a chance to show his talent, last year wasn't really fair to him since he was tossed in at the meat of the schedule, will be interesting to see how he goes.

I concur fully, in that Sanchez is has great talent -- but man, his energy was crazy last year -- he was so up to play the coaches had to settle him down. I will say, the kid in not afraid to run with the ball, something that USC hasn't had in a long time. Leinart ran like a stork and Booty was on square wheels (outside of the bootleg).

Damian Williams, I actually forgot to mention him. He's another talent, I think he fared very well through scrimmage and could make an early appearance this season. Someone's got to catch the damn ball.

We do have another guy, Trevon Patteron, he's a burner, but I believe he was injured last year so they're back in the lab trying to find the right mix.

I was thinking of coming out in 09 to C-bus to the Shoe. Think I'll fare any better than the Longhorn fans did a few years back? My understanding is you need to be a Navy SEAL doing recon in order to leave town without smelling like urine.

By the way -

Pretorius?
Laurinaitis?

Are we playing Sparta?
