Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

We don't have an incoming freshman like Sergio Kindle who would be #1 at whatever position you put him at, so what's to talk about?

Haha yeah, USC doesn't have 1st rounders at every position either, so it's hardly worth talking about match ups. But spring ball is almost here and my hangover from January is finally 100% gone (thank you Terrelle Pryor) and this is by far the most interesting game next year.

I personally think it could turn out to be very similar to the Texas series, with each team getting a win on the road.

I actually hope it turns into a best-of-three series with an NC game. I think that blueprint could actually get SEC schools to do these home-and-home series with major contenders.
This year would seem like the ticket for that...

Food for thought: if USC beats OSU, and then to the outrage of all OSU makes it to the NC game and beats SC... any chance of a split title? How about if the roles are reversed?

WHOOP! You stupid fucking Canuck. The regular season matchup is only OSU's 3rd and USC's 2nd game of the season...hardly worthy of a true comparison of the teams. The NC game on the other hand would be worthy.

Yeah I hear ya mili.... I mean henton will be primed for the spot in 2009, but this upcoming year even though he will be slated #2 on the depth chart we may see more of pryor and less of henton (in definate running situations and for that curve ball to boeckmans fast ball, or is that the other way around?)

As for beanie I sure hope you're wrong but a 225-245 pound running back (again I think he's heavier than 235 but many people think lesser) with that kind of skill set is hard to keep. Especially when he will be the best back in the nation next year and IMO will be a top 5 pick if he does well this year (which he will).

Also if OSU loses this game our NC hopes are over as far as I'm concerned.... If we lose the game (if it's close I can see us getting into the NC) what team will we have beaten in our stretch through the big ten and our other OOC games? If we lose big to USC (I think we won't but still a possibility) then I think we should be passed over until we start beating some of the upper elite teams like we have in the past. This is were losing the last 2 NCG's by good margins comes back to bite us. If we lose to the only ELITE team on our schedule by more than 7 points what does that say about us? You can't deny other teams with equal records (or even better) when we've had our shot the last two years and layed eggs big time in both of them.

On that note... lets just beat USC :oh:

The addition of Pryor for 2009 adds a whole nother dimension to that game!
We will see how things go, but it just got a lot more interesting!

Not to mention the impact on recruiting a guy like this at QB can have!

Absolutely. Pryor brings a whole new offense to stop in the game with him.

And :io: to BukI

Even though we're not in on a recruit, Pete still has me bug the living room.
I thought USC almost got in. TP and OJ Mayo were going to win the PAC-10 b-ball championship together the next 3 years.:tongue2: Good thing for us TP decided to concentrate on football. Methomps, you might have to take that surviellance equipment back to Radio Shack and get it adjusted so it picks up the Tim Floyd frequencies as well.

Pete Carroll - News

Defense and Special Teams going into Spring Ball.

Two things of note:

1. LB Clay Matthews, Jr. will be experimenting at the lineman-linebacker hybrid position (Elephant) that Cushing manned in 2006.

2. 5-star MLB Luther Brown (came in with Cushing and Maualuga) will be moving over to WLB this spring to get some looks with Rivers gone, Matthews at Elephant, and Maiava injured.

Assistant coach: Coach Carroll, what are we going to call our LB/DE hybrid position this year?

Carroll: Well, let's see. How about Wolf Man? That's scary.

Asst: That's been used a lot before.

Carroll: How about Monster Man. That's pretty cool.

Asst: No, I'm afraid that's not original either.

Carroll: Well, how about an animal name? Let's see....Viper......Leo/Lion..........Panther..........Cougar.......uh..........

Asst: (with sarcasm) I'm sure Elephant hasn't been taken yet.

Carroll: Brilliant!!
