I can't agree with you. Iowa played outstandingly well....they were disrespected with that +17 vegas line for a team leading the Big Ten at that point. Also, don't forget....our run defense gave up some reasonbaly big plays for the first time. Did you know that after the USC no team had run over 9 yards on a single carry against us? Iowa did it a few times. I thought Vandenberg played really well....seemed to bring back memories of the day Jim Sorgi torched us on that fateful night. We were lucky that Stross dropped three important catches which hit him in the numbers. BTW, the call on Chekwa was legit....there was more than a little contact out there.

More than anything, you have to respect what Ferentz does for his program and the Big Ten. Its very hard to recruit in Iowa, and they don't have the recruits that say tOSU, Penn State, scUM, etc. have but they are always very competitive with their limited resources. Thanks to Iowa the Big Ten won a bowl game last year.

Anyways....I am very proud of JT & co....I wonder which coach has a better winning percentage in Nov. in college football. JT is something like.....25-4! That's amazing! :oh:

- If Nathan Williams doesn't start the play across the LOS, then it's probably not an easy pick and return.

Big disagreement here. Williams jumped across, then stopped his motion, tried to get back as the play started, then went into his play. If anything, his jumping across slowed his pass rush. His being in the neutral zone at the time of the snap didin't help him at all and it certainly didn't affect any of the other players in V'bergs face when he tried to execute a screen.

So, as someone who gets hammered all the time for being too negative, I only have one thing to say about this game. The team, the media, the fans, and even myself came into this game expecting it to be a blowout, and Vandenberg would be sacked 20 times and have no completions. The defense thought this as well. I could tell just from the way they were playing. No fire at all, until OT. that iowa posession in OT was exactly what I thought we would see all game long. I know that the team was way over-confident, because I was as well, and I rarely have that much confidence in the Buckeyes, specifically the offense

It's a disservice to a really good Iowa team to look at all the what-ifs for the Bucks, but not look at all the what-ifs for the Hawkeyes, namely: The shanked FG and the three HUGE drops by Stross. If Stross catches the TD pass in the end-zone and OSU starts playing the entire game from behind, the whole thing goes differently.

Going down the chain of what-ifs as if OSU dominated a game they won by three points in OT is like going back and retroactively saying previous games were shutouts.

- Weak PI in Chekwa
- It was a legit call on Chekwa. He needs to play the ball, not run into his man.

- Flag on the INT for a touchdown
- If Nathan Williams doesn't start the play across the LOS, then it's probably not an easy pick and return.

- 3rd and short they got it and fumbled and we have to punt
- ?

- The kick return for a touchdown (That play was so terrible)
- OSU missed at least three tackles. That KR was earned by Iowa because OSU handled the coverage poorly. Did you go back and adjust the game score last week to remove the TDs set up by Ray Small's returns, since the return game doesn't really count?

Vandenberg played very well, as did the Iowa team. Don't be a sore winner.

When a key part of the team's philosophy is to minimize your own mistakes and take advantage of the other team's, I think it's perfectly legitimate to go down the chain and see how the game could've turned out if the Buckeyes made less mistakes. It's not about disrespecting anybody or or trying to make it sound like the Buckeyes did better than the result indicates. It's about recognizing room for improvement and it's about properly directing criticism.

BTW, somebody already said it, but I also disagree with your response about Williams' offside penalty. He made a move to get back onside. Since he didn't make it back that means that he his physically and mentally moving in the opposite direction that he was supposed to go in when the ball was snapped. If you want to play what-if on this particular play, I think it's more likely that an onside Williams might have recorded the first sack of the game than it is that he'd not be contributing to the pressure and keep Vandenberg from throwing the would-be INT.
